Santa Clarita Teen On Track To Become SCV’s First Female Eagle Scout

Working to become one of Santa Clarita’s first female Eagle Scouts, 17-year-old Anna Fineberg is partnering with Project Linus SCV to give back to a community that has given to her.

In the process of achieving the Boy Scouts of America’s (BSA) highest award, Fineberg has set up a GoFundMe page to gather the materials necessary to construct blankets for a local non-profit organization and complete her Eagle Scout Project, the final requirement to achieving the highest scout rank.

“For my Eagle Scout Service Project, I will be constructing blankets for Project Linus SCV, which is an organization near and dear to my heart,” Fineberg said. “As a Saugus High School student, Project Linus brought comfort and security back to my community after a high school tragedy, and it is now my turn to help give that comfort back to children and teenagers in need.”

“When they brought the blankets, it was just so comforting, it was like being a child again with a safety blanket,” Fineberg said. “People brought them to classes all over the school and once I saw that impact, I knew I wanted to partner with Project Linus.”

Fineberg’s GoFundMe page has already surpassed her goal of $3,000 during a span of just two days and maintains “the more funds I raise, the more blankets I can provide for Linus SCV.”

Project Linus is a non-profit organization working to provide comfort for the critically ill as well as traumatized children through blanket distribution, according to Project Linus officials.

Donations are set aside to purchase fleece and other supplies to create at least 100 blankets in partnership with Project Linus, according to the GoFundMe

With her project in the works, Fineberg is on track to achieve the rank of an Eagle Scout and become “one of the first female scouts in the Santa Clarita Valley to reach this honor.”

Becoming an Eagle Scout has long been a rigorous process where scouts are required to earn at least 21 merit badges and execute a large-scale community service project before turning 18, according to BSA.

Only 6 percent of BSA scouts become Eagle Scouts due to the many requirements, but female scouts, who have only been allowed to be a part of BSA since February 2019, face a much larger time crunch.

I started my entire journey at 14-years-old, so I had a lot of catching up to do,” Fineberg said.

The newest girls in the organization must do their part to finish the requirements as quickly as possible between 2019 and their 18th birthday, whereas boys have been able to start their journey at just 10-years-old.

“I remember being a little kid and watching my brother go through it and once they allowed girls in 2019, I jumped on the opportunity,” Fineberg said.

Fineberg is a proud member of Troop 2019, the only female BSA troop in the Santa Clarita Valley, and hopes to become the first Eagle Scout before she turns 18 in July.

  1. Love this! Super proud of Anna – she is amazing!!!

  2. I find this sad that girls insist on being in Boy Scouts and boys insist on being in Girl Scouts.
I don’t find their “accomplishments” anything to be proud of. Girls & boys clubs members should remain within their own gender groups and enjoy each other’s company, there is plenty of time to co mingle as adults in the work force. I highly doubt a girl would talk to a boy about her period or like of a certain boy or a boy would talk to a girl about jock itch & like of a certain girl.
Why can’t people leave well enough alone.

    • Agreed! Boy Scouts is for boys. She can accomplish just as much with the girls.

      • Actually – you are incorrect. In 2019, all gender barriers were taken down in the Boy Scouts of America. Female Scouts BSA troops were allowed to form. Troop 2019 was the first one to charter in SCV on 2/1/2019. Girls cannot achieve the rank of Eagle Scout in Girl Scouts. She could only go after the Gold Award, which is not the same. She actually is accomplishing this rank within her troop, which is all female, however it has the same qualifications, expectations, and longevity as it has had since 1910. Add to the fact that she has chosen to do her project to benefit an organization that helped her and thousands of other students heal after the SHS tragedy (of which she was there) and I would ask you to think again about your comments. Do your research – you will see that the 2 organizations are quite different – and maybe then you will be more enlightened.

  3. KMS, That is a very unkind comment on this young lady’s achievement. You should pay close attention to Mathew 5:22
“But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell”. I will pray for you to be kind to others.

  4. Pastor Jeff we don’t want are kids grow up and be knuckle heads I agree with kms making kids not transgender would love hear back from you amen

  5. Pastor Jeff & Liberals, Agree with all above, except your condoning! As an Eagle Scout, both sex’s should be proud & strive hard for achievement, but there are differences that should be special and shared with their own special normal, biological special differences, so the youngsters grow up to be separate MEN & LADIES, strong & separate enjoying their beautiful differences with TRUE pride, for stable, honest, prosperous futures, for truly happy stable futures! The Bible does not excuse right from wrong with specialized verses to confuse tender, proper growing hearts, minds & souls!

  6. Stupidity at its finest! This country has gone down the tubes.
