Santa Clarita Youth Invite Law Enforcement To Conversation On Race

A collective of young people from the Santa Clarita Valley have organized a peaceful demonstration for Saturday, where they have invited both law enforcement officers and people who may disagree with the Black Lives Matter movement to have a conversation about racial issues in Santa Clarita.

On Saturday morning, a group of young Santa Clarita residents, who go by the name “Generation Z,” are organizing a demonstration at Central Park in the hopes to have community members sit down and discuss racial issues with the Santa Clarita Valley.

“It is purposed to essentially start a dialogue and also just expose people to a youth of color perspective out here in Santa Clarita,” said Sebastian Cazares, one of the organizers of the demonstration. “Some of us have experienced these prejudices or these acts of racism. Instead of just yelling at each other, let’s invite each other to it, and maybe see if we can actually get the people that are against us to actually come to our side and peacefully demonstrate with them.”

The planned event comes on the heels of Black Lives Matter protests that have sparked around the country following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

“At the end of the day, you can come out and you can get people excited and energetic, but we want to have an actual positive influence in the community and for our own community,” Cazares said.

As part of the event, organizers say that they have invited local law enforcement officials from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and the California Highway Patrol Newhall Office to be part of the intended dialogue.

“It’s a human race thing,” said Ismael Valdez, another one of the event’s organizers. “If we all join together and we unite, I believe we as a whole, as youth, as a community, can do some very powerful things in the world.”

The event is scheduled to take place at Central Park on Saturday at 11:30 a.m.

Santa Clarita Youth Invite Law Enforcement To Conversation On Race

  1. Glad to see a conversation will start happening. The youth group needs know that this should be a 2 – way conversation with Law Enforcement, not just them. One of the greatest problems with the millenial youths is that they feel ENTITLED to everything. Many have zero respect for authority which includes their parents, and law enforcement (which over 99% are great people).

If the millenials have ever served the military, than they would understand what “unit cohesion” means (UA).” UA does not tolerate discrimination, and you respect everyone to name a couple of the traits. Rhenfact is millennials did not grow up in during the Great Depression, World War II, Vietnam, and more. Yet most of these newly registered voters think Socialism and Communism will solve all our problems. Unfortunately the millenials can’t name a single country where Socialism or Communism is thriving in the world. They need to study history and learn from mistakes that were made. Unfortunately many of their grand parents have passed on and couldn’t share these lessons with them, or they are first or second generation Americans who family left their Socialist and / or Communist nation for a better life in the U.S. Open your mind, and don’t read just the 93% Left Wing mainstream media stories.

    • I’d like to have little two-way chat with you, Marcus. Many on the right and alt right love to point to China, a Communist state, Russia, an oligarchy with an extreme right-wing dictatorship (Putin), and North Korea, a straight-out dictatorship as socialist . These countries are generally oppressive in nature with a high misery index.

More enlightened countries such as Canada, Denmark, Norway and Finland have a different type of socialism that provides education and health care, promotes small businesses and are among the happiest places in which to live according to its citizens. These countries are examples of what Bernie Sanders points to when he asks why we cannot have better education and health care under Democratic Socialism, here, in America, where we pay the most and get the least in return.

I’d be curious as to where and how you get that 93% Left Wing mainstream media number. This is intended as a dialogue. Have a great day and please do respond.

  2. When I was young, Civics was a required course and a popular catchphrase that sprang from that experience, back in the Reagan years, was “I may not agree with what you say, but I will fight for your right to say it.” – an echo of that philosophy having been so visibly demonstrated by the Skokie case a few years prior.

I am still friends with many of those kids with whom I grew up – the internet being a wonderful thing and all – and it amazes and saddens me how quickly several of those friends are willing to salute and shout “Jawhol” as their own government moves to limit the People’s First Amendment rights.

These children, my own kids!, are being taught a lesson in true Civic Responsibilities in the middle of a pandemic (111,000+ dead and counting) while the schools are closed and the inept Federal Government calls for the deployment of the military to our streets. They are witnessing those that bloviate noisily to demonstrate support for the Second Amendment and the need to arm oneself against an oppressive government; and yet, as the government imposed oppression sinks in, these children are seeing that patriots resist oppression with their blood, their tears, and their bodies. And in most cases, these patriots look an awful lot like these children themselves.

These children are seeing what happens when the true milita, the Army National Guard, aligns itself with the people and the Constitution they have sworn an oath to protect, and what happens when an overarmed and amped-up police force adopts all of the tatics of an occupying force, and they don’t like it. And they are willing to fight to make a change. The opportunistic looting is largely over, the only riots seemingly have been instigated or initiated by the police themselves – and yet, the protests continue. But slowly – far too slowly – change is coming; the protests have shown their effect.

These lessons will last this generation a lifetime. I can only hope this generation does a much better job than the Boomers did in inculcating future generations to come, so this country never sees such strife again.

  3. I hope our youth will hear both sides of the black community and how they feel like this black lady listen to her thoughts and pass it on to the youth.

    • What you fail to realize, Will, is this is not some “check the box” exercise. Finding one person who agrees with your preconditioned outlooks does not counter the fact that the vast, vast majority of the populace sees something wrong, systemically wrong, in the way the state has dealt with a segment of the population. The biggest protests (peaceful protests) so far are happening this weekend in Washington DC, news reports from central Ohio to rural Colorado are showing support and awareness growing even in “the heartland”. And as we have witnessed, the longer this goes on, the longer the majority of Americans are willing to stop, listen, and open their hears – the stronger the country becomes.

  4. Destruction. Complete destruction of cities, streets, property, monuments and violence. RIP David Dorn. This isn’t a movement- it is domestic terrorism by mindless sheep who haven’t investigated the organization they claim to fight for but blindly follow the misinformed.

Imagine a city with no law. No law enforcement. These misguided kids are pawns. They are listening to lies and they think they are doing justice. Their heart is in the right place but they are being used. The truth will prevail. Before you support a radical terrorist organization, do some research for Pete sakes.

  5. Spending my life as a Democrat I though I thought I made a good choice. Then Joe Biden recently said “you ain’t black if your voting for Trump” which really disappointing the African American community.

Next I started to study history. Learning that a Republican names Abraham Lincoln freed slaves such as my ancestors, and learning that the Klu Klux Klan was founded by Democrats I realized I pledged my vote for the wrong party. Plus the Lefties love the open borders crowds. My people have high unemployment, how can they choose an undocumented immigrant over legal citizens? My finally wake up call came when my friend sent me this video. It is a black woman calling out BLM outside the White House. She is right! Here is the link, and scroll to the YouTube video.

  6. BLM is a joke and here is why. A black woman is in front of the White House telling BLM they are full or lies and spreading misinformation. See for yourself, and it includes a YouTube video.

  7. The only thing I am seeing is the whole world being convinced by our media that America is a racist country with racist police. They is very sad to me and it is just not true. I have never seen anyone treated any different because of their color or race. It’s a lie! Every race is just as capable as every other race. Look at the Hispanic community they arere worker bees, Gardners construction workers food trucks Mexican restaurants on every corner. All races come here because this is the land of opportunity and money for All races no excuses. Life is what you make it here no matter your race and anyone can even became president it’s already been proven. Don’t buy into what they are pushing. Be open to the other black people that do not buy into this black suppressed excuse go online look them up the media will not let them speak out its sad. It’s destroying this great free proud nation. Social media and our opinion news is tearing us apart.

  8. Will, “Life is what you make it,” sounds nice, but some people are born into difficult circumstances they have no control over as children. They have greater traumas in their early years than you, obviously, can imagine. The ones who suffer as they grow up are not CHOOSING to be victims! The fear then that comes along as some racist authority figures don’t protect them is shattering. Just TRY to put yourself in someone else’s shoes. Thank God the young people protesting are still able to do that as the oldies ramble on about being victims of the media and other nonsense.

    • Lie’s lies the only ones that are afraid of authority are the ones who are taught authority is not on your side. Your argument about those less fortunate have an advantage in America with free government food ,money ,shelter and free college if they choose to go so don’t try and convince me of the lie’s you wnd the media are trying to push on us all this is America the poor have it easier than most.

    • Underprivileged and broken homes are a issue with every race. The human race, around the entire world. IT’S NOT ABOUT RACE!!!!!!

  9. It’s about race when you’re talking about racism!
