Santa Clarita’s First Orthodontist Alan Barbakow Dies At 77

Dr. Alan Barbakow, Santa Clarita first orthodontist, passed away Friday morning at the age of 77.

Barbakow was not only a noteworthy orthodontist, he was known for his charitable nature. The doctor was honored in 2009 by the Zonta Club in SCV, a club in which members donate thousands of hours yearly to assist other nonprofits in the SCV with daily operations and yearly events as well as funding a variety of scholarships and community grants.

Barbakow was also the board president of the Child & Family Center in Santa Clarita. The Child & Family Center is known for changing lives and healing relationships by helping people thrive through education, treatment, prevention and advocacy.

Barbakow served as President of the Betty Ferguson Foundation, an organization that helped women and girls begin, further or restart, their education.

Together Barbakow and his wife, Rise, also chaired the Boys and Girls Club Auction. The auction supported numerous after school programs for local youth.

Being the caring and involved orthodontist he was, Barbakow was a founding member of the Foundation For Children’s Dental Health, which is based in Santa Clarita.

“Alan Barbakow was a Santa Clarita Man of The Year, supporting so many local non-profits,” said Carl Goldman, co-owner of KHTS Radio. “He will be missed.”
