Assemblywoman Pilar Schiavo, D-Chatsworth, announced Tuesday that she is set to host an Emergency Preparedness Fair and Workshop Saturday afternoon in Valencia.
The emergency preparedness fair is scheduled to provide information to residents to better prepare them for Southern California’s upcoming fire season, which generally falls between September through November.
Schiavo’s office plans to bring in representatives from Red Cross, Los Angeles County Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, City of Santa Clarita Emergency Operations and CERT Programs, California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (CaOES), MySafe: LA, and other organizations working to help with local emergency relief to speak to attendees on emergency preparedness.
“As our communities face increasingly severe natural disasters, especially as we approach wildfire season, our office wants to ensure everyone is ready and prepared to the best of their abilities,” said Schiavo. “That’s why we’re bringing together resources from many different departments in one place at one time – to make it as simple and easy as possible for our community to get the resources and information they need.”
These local representatives are scheduled to bring public awareness and provide information through the tabling portion of Saturday’s event.
“I will never forget when I had to evacuate my home with my daughter as a fire threatened our community, not to mention multiple fires that had us on the edge of evacuation. Often until that moment comes you don’t know if you’re ready for an emergency,” Schiavo said.
After looking at this year’s weather patterns and comparing the absence of the Santa Ana winds 2022, Cal Fire reports that it ranked below the five-year average with less than 400,000 acres burning in California.
“Weather outlook for March to June calls for mixed temperature & precipitation anomalies with timely moisture intrusions for the rest of this winter and less certainty for the spring,” stated Cal Fire officials in their 2023 Incident Outlook.
The urgency for this local fair may be something to pay attention to due to the unusual amount of June gloom California is experiencing. Similar to 2018, as reported by Scientific American, the gloom was followed by extremely high heat waves in July.
Cal Fire reported that 2018 was the deadliest and most destructive wildfire season in California history.
Schiavo’s Emergency Preparedness Fair and Workshop is scheduled to be held from 1 p.m to 3:30 p.m. RSVP for the event here.

The real California emergency she is ignoring is the $32 billion deficit the state has this year. That means at Democrat driven overspending will require HIGHER TAXES.
When was the last time Democrats demanded fiscal responsibility? They do not know what that is.
Cut liberal entitlement spending on non-sense feel good wastes until the state can do them in a balanced budget.
Where does Schiavo stand on tax cuts?
