The Santa Clarita Valley Child & Family Center held its annual meeting of the board of directors last week, which featured the installation of new officers and expressions of gratitude for the service of outgoing board members.
“It was wonderful. It was really a great evening,” said Cheryl Jones, vice president of marketing and community outreach at the Child & Family Center.
The event was held July 11 at the Sand Canyon Country Club and was overseen by State Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, who served as the event’s installing officer, according to officials.
Other government officials and their representatives were present to offer their congratulations and thanks, including Assemblymember Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita, and representatives for Rep. Katie Hill, D-Agua Dulce, and LA County 5th District Supervisor Kathryn Barger, according to Jones.
Members of the board of directors for the organization are permitted to serve three 3-year terms before they are required to step down for one year, after which they are invited to return to the board if they’d like, according to officials.
Those that stepped down this year included Barbara Cochran, Bill Cooper, Ken Kreyenhagen, Nick Lentini, Ginger LeVang, Irene Thomas-Johnson and Charlotte Kleeman, according to Jones.
This year, Staci Daniels-Sommers, Steve Sturgeon, Aida Weinstein, Dr. David Wong and Steven Zimmer joined — or in the case of Wong and Zimmer, returned to — the board, according to Jones.
Cheri Flemming was also formally recognized as the board chair, taking over the responsibility from outgoing chair Michael Berger.
Even with the changing of the guard, there are no immediate plans for any major changes in the organization’s path going forward, according to officials.
“We’ve been working on implementing our three-year strategic plan, so they’ll be moving forward with the plans that have been laid out there,” Jones said.
