The Santa Clarita Child & Family Center’s Domestic Violence Program is hosting a virtual Purple Walk of Strength to recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month and raise funds for resources for survivors of domestic violence.
These resources come at a time more critical than ever, with recent reports in the Santa Clarita Valley suggesting a 59 percent increase in domestic violence calls since the onset of the pandemic and quarantine households.
“Funds raised provide life-saving and life-changing shelter and services to survivors and their children right here in our community,” reads a statement from the organization.
“This year, more than ever before, these funds are critical to helping those in abusive situations,” said Cheryl Jones, vice president of marketing and communications for the Child & Family Center. “While fundraising events are more challenging than ever in our current environment, we’re hoping that community members will ‘join together / while apart’ to support Child & Family Center’s Virtual Purple Walk.”
This year’s fundraising looks different from previous years due to COVID-19 restrictions from the Los Angeles County Health Department. The event itself is expected to take place virtually via Facebook live at 8 a.m. on Oct. 17. On this stream viewers can see live videos, music and more.
Registration for the physical walk/run is $35 per person and includes a t-shirt, medal and swag bag. Participants are encouraged to walk the suggested and downloadable routes solo or with their families due to social distancing. All walk/runs must be completed between Oct. 17-24.
Registration swag bag pickup is available Oct. 16, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Child & Family Center.
Interested individuals are also able to sponsor the event as well. For more information on this, contact 661-255-6847 ext. 3018. To register for the event and walk/run click here.
