Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s deputies and Los Angeles County Fire Department officials took part in an active shooter training exercise Monday morning at Valencia High School.
On Monday, from 7 a.m. to 12 p.m, the SCV Sheriff’s Station, with the help of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) Tactics and Survival unit, LASD Special Enforcement Bureau, and the Los Angeles County Fire Department did a full training where deputies participated in various active shooter scenarios at Valencia High School.
The training and drills allow personnel to sharpen skills necessary and allow for quicker medical response, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the SCV Sheriff’s Station.
During the training SCV deputies and LACoFD firefighters worked together in multiple scenarios where simulation rounds, and smoke were used.
“Folks should know what an extraordinary level of coordination and collaboration that we enjoy between the school districts in our valley and local law enforcement. It was outstanding and they shared with us repeatedly throughout that they’ve never experienced anything to this extent before.” said Mike Kuhlman, superintendent of the William S. Hart Union High School District “I just thought it was remarkable and great for us to see their work in action.”
