SCV Water To Host Sustainable Summer Landscape Classes

As the Santa Clarita Valley enters the summer season, SCV Water is helping prepare residents for the season by hosting two classes on sustainable summer landscapes.

Ed. Note: The following is a press release from SCV Water.

While it may be too hot to get out in your landscape and garden, SCV Water has free monthly gardening classes that will get you thinking about your landscape design and ways to sustain it through summer.

Faced with a blank canvas of a yard? Or is it time for a refresh of the planters around your home? Come join us for Planning a Landscape Project and Budget on Thursday, July 11 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Participants will learn how to create a plan and design for plants and hardscape, determine the labor needed, as well as estimate and manage a budget.

Or are you just starting to think about your landscape project? Join us on Saturday, July 20 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and we’ll show you where to start! Come learn about the Basics of a Sustainable Landscape, including ways to preserve natural resources, be water-wise, and still have a landscape that meets your needs.

The instructor for the July 11 class is Tim Wheeler. Tim has degrees in both Horticulture Science and Park Administration. He has been in the green industry for over 25 years. During that time, he has specialized in landscape management, landscape education, and water conservation. Tim holds a number of certifications and licenses including Certified Arborist, Water Use Efficiency Practitioner, and Certified Landscape Water Auditor.

The instructor for the July 20 class is John Windsor. John Windsor is a Certified Arborist and a California Certified Nurseryman. He has been a Horticultural Advisor in the Santa Clarita Valley for the last 21 years. He has a teaching credential in Horticulture and teaches gardening and landscape classes at the local Adult School, and the Santa Clarita Department of Parks and Recreation.

All classes are held at SCV Water, located at 27234 Bouquet Canyon Road, Santa Clarita.
