Select AAA Locations To Offer REAL ID

In partnership with the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV), some American Automobile Association (AAA) locations near Santa Clarita are set to offer REAL IDs.

Select AAA locations throughout Southern California are scheduled to begin issuing REAL IDs by appointment only for a limited time later this month.

“The DMV continues to streamline its processes and incorporate technology to become more mobile and better serve its customers through more convenient service options,” California DMV Director Steve Gordon said. “We hope our partnership with the Automobile Club of Southern California will prompt its members to get their REAL ID now and not wait until the last minute.”

Before heading to a participating AAA location, those interested in obtaining a REAL ID are required to first visit the DMV’s website to fill out the online application, upload documents, schedule an appointment, and pay the required driver’s license or identification card fee.

Members must show their confirmation code and required documents to the DMV representative at the AAA office, who is expected to use a mobile tablet to capture their fingerprint, snap a photograph and allow for an electronic signature to complete the application process, DMV officials said.

The pilot is scheduled to run through December.

According to the California DMV, the following Los Angeles County AAA locations are scheduled to offer Real IDs:

  • Alhambra
  • Arcadia
  • Chatsworth
  • Inglewood-Ladera
  • Long Beach
  • Los Angeles
  • Manhattan Beach
  • Northridge
  • Rancho Palos Verdes

Other locations offering Real ID in Southern California are as follows:

  • Camarillo
  • Chino
  • Costa Mesa
  • Fullerton
  • Laguna Hills
  • La Quinta
  • Redlands
  • Riverside
  • San Diego – Clairemont
  • Santa Barbara

Starting May 3, 2023, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security is scheduled to require a valid passport or another federally approved document, like a REAL ID driver’s license or identification card, to board flights within the United States and access secure federal facilities and military bases, officials said.

“A big part of the Auto Club’s member services is providing travel planning, through our expert travel advisers,” said Michael Johnson, AAA senior vice president for member services. “Getting a Real ID will add significant convenience to those who have plans to travel.”
