Sheriff’s Officials Offer Rideshare Safety Tips After Woman Mistakes Wrong Vehicle

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials are offering rideshare tips to users after a woman allegedly got into the wrong vehicle, officials said.

A woman recently reported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station that she left a restaurant in Santa Clarita and spotted a car that matched the color of her rideshare car, according to Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the station.

“She asked the driver if he was her ride. He said ‘Yes, I’m your ride,’” according to officials.

“She got in,” Miller said. “After they were driving down the road, the woman realized it wasn’t her ride.”

The woman was able to get away safely, according to officials.

Uber, one of many companies that offers this service, says their system is able to share the riders location with a friend.

“While en route, tap ‘share status’ in the app to share your driver’s name, photo, license plate, and location with a friend or family member. They can track your trip and see your ETA without downloading the Uber app,” said Uber officials.

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station officials advise users to check the license plate and driver photo before entering a rideshare vehicle, which can be found in most rideshare apps.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
