Six Flags Magic Mountain Aiming To Re-Open In Spring

Six Flags Magic Mountain may be re-opening as soon as Spring of 2021 complete with rides, according to a tweet put out by the park Friday.

On Friday, the official Six Flags Magic Mountain Twitter account posted an image advertising that the park would be re-opening “with rides” in Spring of 2021.

“A specific opening date has not been determined, however Six Flags Magic Mountain is in preparation mode and working closely with state and local officials to reopen both our theme park and waterpark,” park spokesperson Jerry Certonio wrote in an email to KHTS Friday.

The park has been closed down since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, and has since become the site of a large-scale COVID-19 vaccine distribution center.

“Six Flags’ comprehensive reopening plan, which the company developed in consultation with epidemiologists, meets or exceeds federal, state, and local guidelines for sanitization, hygiene, and social distancing protocols,” reads a statement on the park’s website, which is also advertising the park’s re-opening. “Park reopening dates are subject to change based on local, state, and federal guidelines related to COVID-19.”

In the meantime, the park hosted a drive-thru Christmas light experience, and is set to host a “once-in-a-lifetime” drive-thru car show in conjunction with West Coast Customs over the next several weekends.

“We are ready to welcome our guests back with a full complement of our world-class coasters and water attractions in accordance with the California Blueprint for a Safer Economy,” Certonio wrote.

Towards the beginning of February, Assemblywoman Suzette Valladares, R-Santa Clarita, co-sponsored Assembly Bill 420, which would effectively allow theme parks such as Magic Mountain and Disneyland to open once their respective counties achieve “Tier 3” status instead of “Tier 4.”

By opening our theme parks, we will trigger a ripple effect to our local economy and in turn, create more jobs,” Valladares said at the time. “It’s time to offer clear guidelines that will balance public health and the need to safely get people back to work, and this bill is the first step.”

This would allow Six Flags Magic Mountain to re-open once Los Angeles County’s daily COVID-19 case rate stood between 1 and 3.9 per 100,000 residents.

As of Friday, L.A. County had a case rate of 20 COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents.

Even if that bill were to pass, current guest limits at theme parks would still only allow the parks and indoor dining establishments to open at 25% capacity, which proponents of the bill argue is better than further damaging county economies through continued theme park shutdowns.

  1. Sorry amusement park companies I am not going to wear a mask or be turned away because of capacity. See you when you fully re-open hopefully Newscum will finally be recalled and out of office so we can open everything up

  2. I will support the earliest opening of roller coasters in the SCV

  3. I’d be happy to wear a mask at the park if it means coming back, turn me away if it’s at capacity, some people’s lives will be saved because of it. I am worried about the water park opening though. Will be hard for people to keep their masks on in the pool. Or even in the wave pools. Distancing 6 feet in water will be difficult too if you’re a solo swimmer, wonder how that’s going to be enforced with some of our more determined guests to wave their flags and claiming their rights are more important than someone’s life.
