On Thursday, residents gathered just outside of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station at the corner of Magic Mountain Parkway and Valencia Boulevard for a “Support Law Enforcement” demonstration.

“I’m an angry citizen that is so upset over the fact that today police lives don’t matter,” said one of the demonstrators who only gave her first name of Robin. “They do matter.”

The demonstration comes after several weeks of Black Lives Matter protests against police brutality across the Santa Clarita Valley and throughout the nation following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

However, participants in Thursday’s demonstration said that their gathering was not meant to be a response to the Black Lives Matter movement.

“It’s in response to how the police are being treated,” Robin said. “I want the officers to know that I appreciate all of them. Yes, there was somebody that did a very bad thing and it was unlawful and uncalled for, but that does not speak for the rest of the officers that care about the community.”

Demonstrators referred to calls to “defund the police” as “despicable.”

“I disagree with that completely,” Robin said. “It’s actually a joke.”

When asked what message she wanted to send law enforcement officials in Santa Clarita, Robin had three main words: “We love you.”

“There’s many people out there that love you,” she said. “We support you and we respect you, and that will never stop.”

  1. We love our LE!!! Thankful for all that you do!! You all are appreciated beyond measure and the actions of one individual DO NOT reflect all the men and women who proudly wear the badge.
    #Fundthepolice

    • But the truth is, it does reflect a decent amount of men and women who proudly wear the badge and that needs to change. It may be a small percentage, but they still exist. If a doctor messes up on accident then they get fired, but it took a global social media outcry for justice to be served. The officers do it on purpose, and the blm protests are to put them in check, not get rid of the police department overall.

      • Blm really showed the USA didn’t they? Total destruction of neighborhoods and monuments. Putting LE in check?! That was domestic terrorism using violence and fear on all Americans to force their views upon everyone. Anyone who condones violence and destruction to keep anything in “check” has serious mental issues.

        • And anyone who thinks that BLM is domestic terrorism and the SLOW PROTRACTED MURDER of a human being is not has “mental issues’ Karen.

        • Pay attention, majority of the videos you see online, there are zero black people actually looting and rioting, it’s people like you taking advantage of the situation knowing that black people will be blamed for things that they aren’t a part of. The police are also the ones starting the violence majority of the time, I see people WALKING minding their own business and they get arrested because they are just passing by. Do you condone the deaths of these black people? Breonna Taylor was at her own house and was shot 8 times by the police who stormed the wrong house. George Floyd was SUSPECTED of using a fake $20. Arbery was jogging through his neighborhood. I’ll condone violence if you condone murders. And if you condone murders, then you have mental issues. The protestors aren’t starting anything. They fight back, they don’t fight first.

  2. I do not have to choose black or blue, I can support both

  3. Thank you for doing this! What great people!!

  4. Thank you to all the police officers for your hard work!! We respect and love you!!

  5. Couldn’t agree more with these amazing women holding the signs. Thank you to these wonderful residents for speaking up against the unfathomable hate towards police! My family has enormous respect for law enforcement! Yes, even my teenagers.

  6. Agreed! ?
Our guys do a great job every day!

  7. Nothing but love for you!! Police lives matter 🙂

  8. Nobody deserved what was being shouted at them last week. These are amazing people who provide our community with safety, peace, and protection. Seeing these brave officers provide protection for the angry mob, showcases just how amazing they are! You have a heart of gold LE.

  9. Why aren’t they wearing masks, why wasn’t the National Guard called in, why wasn’t our city on tactical alert, why weren’t businesses shuttered…umm that’s right…they’re all White “demonstrators”or as trump would say “real patriots.” What a joke!! This is what a double standard looks like, don’t you get it?
I can hear the criticism already….but they didn’t loot, they didn’t riot, they didn’t destroy property. Guess what, neither did the folks who came out last week, you know the group you all called ‘thugs’ ‘looters’ ‘leftists’ even “Antifa”
They were all protesters right, but these fine white folk are “demonstrators” BEYOND RIDICULOUS

    • Alice, you are a fool. I’m embarrassed for you.

    • Lot of anger there Alice. Get some mental health therapy.

    • I can hear the great words from a friend…
“you can’t have a battle of wits with an unarmed person”.
      Be well, Alice.

      • Hey Chuck, check your privilege it’s showing. I will continue to keep my head high and my middle finger higher.

Silence is tacit complicity. Racism is a public health issue and you sound “dis-eased.”

    • Obviously you did not drive through town. Many businesses were boarded up. The National Guard was here. Just be happy that we still have our beautiful city. The city officials made wise decisions to protect our community.

    • Alice, it’s pretty sad that you have so much hate inside you that it blinds you from reality. It appears there were only five people demonstrating. Yes, they look like they are probably white but why does the color of their skin matter? People like you are the true racists in our society.

      • Alice, wow…you need to check your attitude. I’m so tired of being told I have “white privilege”. It just isn’t the case. I grew up poor, abused, and neglected, but I’m not filled with bitterness or entitlement. I had to work harder because I don’t have “minority privilege”. It will be over when we care about character and not color.

        • White privilege loud and clear

          • We all have the same “privilege”! Free taxpayer paid public school from K-12 with many getting free breakfast, lunch & ? dinner! After hours tutoring/mentoring. Free public libraries, etc.,etc! It’s up to each person/family to BEHAVE! One can’t learn ditching school & coming stoned! Talking instead of screaming/yelling at people is not a decent human behavior! Why don’t other POC(Japanese/Filipinos/Chinese/Koreans, etc.) have those constant problems in all areas of life?! Decent human BEHAVIOR!

        • White privilege does not mean that your life hasn’t been hard. It means that it hasn’t been made harder simply by the color of your skin.

    • These people are not looting, causing destruction, obstructing people’s way of destination, or putting in harms way innocent people. They are having a peaceful…once again (key word)…PEACEFUL demonstration of support.

    • Well I guess the answer to your rant is only a handful showed. They didn’t riot or block traffic. No looting took place and they were orderly. Their color shouldn’t be an issue and many more would have showed if the message had been sent out. Its a great idea. May God Bless the LA County Sheriffs and protect them from the idiots who would do them harm.

    • How ridiculous, protest for the people that protect us everyday? Surely we can find someone better, maybe we can find a drugged out criminal that we can all call a hero. And why wasn’t,t nobody looting and destroying property. Oh that’s right because the protesters were all civilized people and not a bunch of crazed criminals looking for a free pair of nikes

  10. Amazing!!! The Police Department everywhere is loved and appreciated. Be careful out there because those haters are extremely violent and never follow the law. God Bless you all.

  11. Why does the color of skin matter should be asked of LA County’s police force who have killed 886 people since 2000; 80% of those killed were Black or Brown. And you ask ME why color matters. It would serve you well to look up the actual definition of racist, you might learn something beyond your own bias blindness. And telling me I have hate inside me is the epitome of tone policing, micro aggression and defensiveness. NEXT

  12. I agree with Elaine.

  13. I support both the police who risk their lives every day they do their job and Black Life Matters who need to increase awareness of inequalities within the justice system. We need to work together. I don’t think that we should defund police. That doesn’t make any sense, because the police that are still there will still follow the same problematic rules, and we need the police. Most police are good people. We shouldn’t take them for granted. I do think their needs to be reform in police department to make sure that police are held accounatable if they use excess violence to enforce the law, and when police chiefs notice that something is not right, they should have the power to fire people working under them when they see fit. (Which isn’t the way it is right now). If that had been the case previously, these repeat offender violent police would be long gone from the police force by now. Everyone need to calm down and find some empathy for those around them, and try and understand where each party is coming from. Please be aware that the national guard was actually brought in to PROTECT THE PROTESTERS from dangerous anti-protesters who were making violent threats on-line. The BLM people are trying very hard to peacefully get thier point accross. The protesters were not the ones looting. It was other criminals who took advantage of the situation who did the looting. Please all. Try and be kind to each other. This is just depressing. Let’s make something good come out of all of this instead of more hate!

    • When a doctor makes a mistake and ends in a death, he’s still employed. Maybe sued but still employed. So how come someone who is in LE should be treated any differently? Good luck finding recruits for law enforcement. Nobody is going to risk doing a unpredictable job and possibly going to jail if they get physical with a gangbanger. No more due process, those days are long gone.

      • Colleen, A mistake is maybe placing the cuffs too tight, not having the resources to get a person in custody to the bathroom in time, or accidentally falling with someone in custody. Placing a knee on someone’s neck for almost 9 minutes or shorting a 12 year old child playing with a toy gun or a unarmed man or women, or a man being shot in the back as he runs away.
        Not the same ma’am.
Law enforcement are trained to take a person down without using excessive force.
        Just saying

    • Yes trying very hard it’s clear to see their peacefulness when I turn on the news or read the news. I was locked in my home while every store was boarded up and curfew in place at 6pm. Because the peaceful protesters. Yikes that’s delusional if you think Blm is trying to be peaceful. Did you see how many people and officers have been murdered or injured? Or did you skip over those horrific events?

      • That is incorrect the protesters and the looters are two different groups. The people that were violent also is not part of the movement and what it stand for. Many protestors when they seen things going wrong they stopped the person that was starting the problem .Dint believe everything you see on the news.

        • Not a part of the same domestic terrorist group? Not one and the same? I can say the exact same thing about the police officers that you are vilifying!!!! These officers are not the representation of the 1 corrupt cop!!!! Yet you are lumping them together. I’m tired of this being a way street with a bunch of clueless people. You cry that you are not representing the looters, well the police are saying they don’t represent the corrupt cop.

    • Well said! That is the way it should be. Empathy goes a long way

  14. I agree! Thank you for your rational thinking.

  15. As a deputy Sheriff I want to thank all of you for your support. It is nice knowing people still have our backs.

  16. We whole heartedly support our Sheriff’s department and all police. We wish we would have known this support protest was going on because my husband and I would have been there. We feel so helpless with whats going on in our State and our Country. Yes all people have the right to protest and let their words be heard but no one has the right to do destruction and looting and burglary and take over blocks of streets and call them their own as is going on in Seattle. God Bless all Police and all people despite or no matter what color. We are not racists and will not take a knee for anyone but God and the cross. All lives matter, mine, yours, everyones. Plus taking down statues or defacing them is ludicrist. This all has to do with heritage and history. Do not erase history people. It’s important.

  17. I agree with the previous posters about this protest not be posted in advance. I, too, would have been there to support this.

@ Alice – put your head in the toilet where it belongs…

  18. Ron, right after you…turd

  19. Seriously people your vote matters all I can say!

  20. Thank you. Love our police. They are great!!
    ?????

  21. Next meeting for back the blue please post ahead so we can all join in
