Early Saturday evening, dozens of cars began to pull into one of the parking lots of the Westfield Valencia Town Center off of Citrus Drive, each adorned with various combinations of American flags, “Trump 2020” banners, and “Recall Newsom” signs.
Then, just after 5:30 p.m., the assembled group pulled out of the lot and drove around Valencia, proceeding from Valencia Boulevard to McBean Parkway, followed by Newhall Ranch Road and Bouquet Canyon Road, honking their horns and waving flags and signs as they did.
“We’re trying to get us to make noise in Santa Clarita,” said Cindy Josten, one of the organizers for the event.
Josten said that she organized the event in an effort to help draw out more conservative voices within the Santa Clarita Valley, which she says feel “silenced.”
“We’re conservative, we’re for America,” she said. “We’re tired of watching everybody burning our flag and disrespecting our country. So it’s time for us to speak up.”
As they drove through the event, Josten, along with her friend and fellow organizer Gabrielle Su, felt “pride.”
“It was great to hear people honking in support and waving and cheering out their car windows,” Su said. “I’m very proud to be here, very proud.”
In addition to wanting to show their support for President Trump, the pair held the parade to voice their frustrations with California Governor Gavin Newsom, specifically citing policies regarding the state’s approach to re-opening and education.
“We’re working on the recall to hopefully try to get him out of office,” Su said. “He is mandating a lot of things that not a lot of people support, so we feel like we’re no longer represented.”
The two hope that events such as the parade will help draw out the voices of people who she believes are “afraid to support America.”
“I want to see a lot more excitement for our president and for our country, and a lot more love and happiness,” Su said.
“I’m not afraid, I’m too mad to be afraid,” Josten added. “I don’t like people stepping on my flag and burning our flag, and flipping us off. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican. Just respect the country.”Do you have a news tip? Call us at (661) 298-1220, or send an email to email@example.com. Don’t miss a thing.
