Two Castaic explosions that were heard Wednesday morning were a result of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) replacing power lines near Castaic Lake Dam, with more explosions expected later on in the week.
LADWP employees are working to replace power lines near Castaic Lake Dam using a technique called “implosion splicing” which makes an explosion sound, said Deputy Mohler, with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Parks Bureau.
“The implosion fuses the wires together,” Mohler said.
There are no more additional implosion splices scheduled for Wednesday, according to a DWP employee on scene.
“This is a reliable, safe method,” Harry Sildva, president of implosive sleeves corporation said. “There is no danger to the neighbors.”
However, the power department has warned the Parks Bureau that additional implosion splices are expected to take place Friday and Sunday during the morning hours, Mohler said.

Putting that picture up is irresponsible reporting. There were no “flames” reported, and no “flames” actually happened.
To imply that “fire” explosions occurred, is poor journalism.
Yea the picture is literally on the front page of the implosive website. This is how fake news begins. Please unsuck at reporting.
Yeah, the implosions are actually 3’ off the ground. When folks don’t know enough about a topic they post anything they can.
Alex, can I get sensationalized click bait photos for 300?
I immediately thought this was the beginning of a horrible fire. Picture was quite deceiving, especially right after Santa Ana winds recently.
Are they bringing LA city fire trucks with them if a sudden wind kicked up? This would be their mess, not ours.
Not to mention implosions suck whereas explosions blow.
While these comments make fun f the reporter and the pictures, if fire is involved, this is a pretty serious matter. LADWP should not be doing anything that creates a spark in low humidity on a high heat day. That horrible Copper Fire that burned through SF Canyon was started by wielders working on a water tank. It only took a spark. It is madness to do any kind of work that will spark in this weather. And guess who will pay if they start a fire? LADWP customers, while the fire victims lose.
Do you not understand the physics of an implosion? For example, an old vacuum TV picture tube when dropped will form a neat pile whereas in an explosion, stuff is all over. You having a bad day? (rhetorical)
The professional lineman that are doing the work are highly skilled and the best at what they do , and they take every precaution when they do this work.
The comments were hilarious, until I read the reporters bio at the bottom of the article.
You’re right. Nowhere does he give Michael Bay any accreditation.
