Several mail sorting machines with the United States Postal Service (USPS) have reportedly been dismantled in Santa Clarita and across the state of California.
Eight USPS mail sorting machines have reportedly been dismantled over the past several weeks in the Santa Clarita Valley, with 92 total machines being dismantled statewide, as reported on by David Goldstein from CBS on Tuesday.
While USPS officials were unable to confirm the exact reason why the machines were dismantled, officials have previously said that the service “routinely moves equipment around its network as necessary to match changing mail and package volumes.”
KHTS reached out to Evelina Ramirez, a USPS spokesperson representing Los Angeles and Orange Counties, for clarification on the reported machine removal. Ramirez responded that she did “not have any additional information to share at this time about those topics,” and deferred to a statement issued by Postmaster General Louis DeJoy on Tuesday.
That statement was issued as criticism mounted against the Postal Service for dismantling machines and removing mailboxes across the country ahead of November’s presidential election, which is set to utilize mail-in voting due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“The United States Postal Service will play a critical role this year in delivering election mail for millions of voters across the country,” DeJoy said in Tuesday’s statement. “The Postal Service is ready today to handle whatever volume of election mail it receives this fall. Even with the challenges of keeping our employees and customers safe and healthy as they operate amid a pandemic, we will deliver the nation’s election mail on time and within our well-established service standards.”
DeJoy said that there were “longstanding operational initiatives,” that predate his time with the USPS that have “been raised as areas of concern as the nation prepares to hold an election in the midst of a devastating pandemic.”
“To avoid even the appearance of any impact on election mail, I am suspending these initiatives until after the election is concluded,” he said.
As part of these suspensions, DeJoy specifically assured that all mail processing equipment and boxes would “remain where they are.”
Officials were unable to comment on whether or not the machines would be reassembled in the wake of DeJoy’s statements.

This is a blatant and shameful attack on our democracy by the failed Trump administration. His sabotaging of our United States Postal Service in order to stay in power by denying We The People our most sacred right, the right to vote, is the clearest indication of who this fascist man in the white House really is. don’t forget, we are in the midst of the worst health crisis of our lifetime, another Trump failure of leadership, making vote by mail absolutely essential. This should have all of us enraged regardless of our political leanings. This in an attack on the United Stats and its citizens by our own president. It could not be any clearer.

I think you are a bit naive, in that Trump expressly said he was trying to slow the mail for mail in ballots. In addition, he installed a man who has no experience in mial processing, but owns vast amount of stock in other delivery companies. A pretty blatant conflict of interest.

Why in the world do we have to insure an item Or mark signature required it track a package or letter we are sending via a FEDERAL agency. I’ve been a part of USPS employee groups going to Congress every year to plead for them to pass legislation to help the Postal Service. Crickets. Now all of a sudden the same Democrats that only paid us lip service and never did a thing all want to help the Postal Service. Yeah, right. Come December only the crickets will be singing. Having over 20 years to head off this “crisis” only makes the timing seem extremely self-serving and non-genuine.
All machines are still running 24 hours on 3 different shifts .

I don’t see any misinformation here. The USPS has confirmed that the machines were dismantled. You’re ascribing a motive to the dismantling, which this article does not do. Nowhere in the article does the author speculate or say that the machines were removed for political purposes.
I agree that fake news is a problem, but this seems fairly straightforward and objective.

Thank you for your report. I treasure the USPS and all the workers who make it function. They perform an amazing task, one that UPS and FedEx admit they can’t do, providing routine service to every address at a terrific price. They’ve been a lifeline for my family and so many others, especially during this pandemic, delivering prescriptions and other critical supplies.
I’m buying stamps and sending handwritten postcards to support Biden/Harris, Christy Smith, and Kip Mueller. I’m not attacking anyone. I truly believe its time for a change in leadership.

My first question as the son of one of the most powerful Postmasters Los Angeles back in the 90s would be… Why would any postal sorting machines be dismantled at a time of an expected massive national need for them with Covid and mail in ballots ??? As a long time independent voter who makes both parties earn my well deserved vote. I tend to trust the party that works harder to earn votes than the party who works harder to suppress the vote. The post office needs to become a privatized business. They’ve been losing money for decades and the burden of their incompetence has been weighing on the shoulders of the American people for too long. Any normal business would never stand for this level of failure.
DeJoy has crippled my hometown post office intentionally, and his actions will make mail delivery slower and more costly. This level of incompetence can only be termed a combination of reckless endangerment, abuse of office, election fraud, and obstruction of mails. Yes, Trump is culpable. I call for immediate impeachment and removal from office of DeJoy.

I was at UCLA for the first meeting with Chinese Gymnasts – a “goodwill tour” before they ever competed in the Olympics. After the obligatory “The East is Red” songfest the meeting broke up. It was amazing to see them pull out gym bags and clear all the food off the buffet table like they were starving (or had to feed other families).

So what about the mail??? Im in MD and have two packages that have been sitting in St. CLARITA among the chaos thats reported there and they have not been scanned or moved since August 10th. They were supposed to be here the 12th and I’ve gotten no response or word on when they’d be arriving now. I have lots of money invested in these packages and one of them is holding me up onstarting projects for work. Im quite irritated. These are orders I made in July. Anybody else having this issue?!?!?!
