(VIDEO): An Inside Look At The New Reyes Winery In Newhall

KHTS was given the opportunity to tour the site of the new Reyes Winery location in Newhall, providing residents a glimpse of what is to come in Old Town Newhall this year.

Over the past 10 months, residents and visitors in Old Town Newhall may have noticed a newly-constructed three-story building off of Main Street between 8th and Market Streets, where a dirt lot had previously been.

Robert Reyes, owner of Reyes Winery and trustee for the construction of the building, gave KHTS a tour of the new property, with a first-floor restaurant and a second-floor office space topped by the “crown jewel” of the project: the new tasting room for Reyes Winery.

“We’re very excited to see this coming together as a vision that we’ve had for some time,” Reyes said.

Reyes was drawn to the Newhall location due to the increased foot traffic in the area.

“It seems timely that we are in the middle of the development of this area, and we’re happy to be here,” Reyes said. “I have a feeling that people are going to like this place, and that we’re going to have a lot of visitors.”

The building itself incorporates many elements of transparency and openness, with the first floor restaurant set up to have open-air dining, and the whole third floor placed in the open air of the building’s roof.

The interior of the building also features two elevators with glass walls so that both customers and employees can look around at their surroundings, further contributing to the openness of the property.

“It’s a continuation of what we already have at Reyes Winery,” Reyes said. “We kind of want to carry that same feeling, that same kind of atmosphere in an open space upstairs as well.”

The “core and shell” of the new building is expected to be completed within the next couple of months, with a possible opening date in June, according to Reyes.

“We’re excited to bring this amazing building and business to this community,” Reyes said. “I think it’ll be a good center of attraction. We’re so excited, and we hope people are going to be excited to visit and spend time with us.”

Stemming from his passion for wine and winemaking, Reyes originally envisioned having a small vineyard to produce small amounts of ultra-premium wines for family and friends, which has since blossomed into the original Reyes Winery.

The land the original winery currently has was acquired in 2002, and the 16-acre property was planted in 2004, according to officials.

The winery has produced many award-winning wines, which include single varietal, Amber, red blends, dessert wines and Rosés, according to officials.  Reyes Winery has won over 300 awards and medals as of July of 2019.

The mission of the winery is to deliver the highest quality wine produced in Los Angeles County at a fair price, and officials believe that the quality of its wines will ultimately speak for itself when compared with other ultra-premium wines on the market.
