Wilk Commemorates Women’s History Month With Community Leaders In Santa Clarita

On Monday, State Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, commemorated Women’s History Month by giving the Small Business of the Month award to SchlickArt Photography and Video, a woman-owned business.

In honor of Women’s History Month, Senator Wilk awarded woman-owned business SchlickArt Photography and Video with the 21st Senate District’s Small Business of the Month.

“Women’s History Month is a great opportunity to highlight some of the 21st Senate District’s amazing women, and we have quite a few,” Wilk said. “It is my honor to recognize Vicky Ventura, Regina Weatherspoon-Bell, and Lindsay Schlick as my 2022 Women’s History Month honorees. Their leadership and contributions to our community have enriched the lives of many people. Congratulations.”

Schlick, owner of SchlickArt Photography and Video and recipient of the district’s Small Business of the Month award, accompanied Weatherspoon-Bell and Ventura in the ceremony honoring them.

“SchlickArt has been a staple in the Santa Clarita Valley for over 10 years,” Wilk said. “As one of the premier photography studios in the SCV, Lindsay’s passion for capturing the internal beauty of her subjects is unparalleled. She started out her business with a commitment to community service. There are very few organizations in the Santa Clarita area that have not been touched by her service.”

The honorees ranged from an immigrant who journeyed to California to for a better life, to a mother who served in public service and is an entrepreneur, according to officials with Wilk’s office.

The ceremony recognized the honorees for their leadership, bravery and efforts which led to the opportunities and the freedoms they are able to have today, according to officials.

The ceremony follows Senator Wilk’s commemoration of last month’s Small Business of the Month, awarded to Kendra Mays, a certified interior designer and events planning expert located in Lancaster.

Wilk has credited small businesses in California with being the ‘economic engine’ of the state, employing 48.5 percent of the state’s workforce.

The senator represents California’s 21st Senate District, which includes the Antelope, Santa Clarita and Victor Valleys.
