17 additional cases of coronavirus have been confirmed across the Santa Clarita Valley on Sunday, with 1,060 confirmed cumulatively since testing for COVID-19 began in March.

As of Sunday afternoon, a total of 1,060 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

• • 659 in the City of Santa Clarita
  • 35 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 303 in Castaic*
    • As of Sunday, May 24, this included 248 cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 39 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center.
  • Four in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 32 in Stevenson Ranch
  • Seven in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 19 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • 1 in the unincorporated areas of Newhall

Additionally, 11 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in nearby Acton as well as six in Agua Dulce.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital officials have administered a total of 1,332 tests as of Thursday, 197 of which have returned positive, and 1,245 of which have returned negative, with 35 still pending, according to hospital spokesperson Patrick Moody.

Some patients have been tested more than once, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to the spokesperson.

While 14 patients are hospitalized due to COVID-19 as of last Monday, 68 have recovered and have been discharged, according to Henry Mayo officials.

The patients are being treated on a designated floor of the newly-built patient tower, with each patient receiving the correct level of care without using beds in the Intensive Care Unit, according to the hospital.

Other health centers in the Santa Clarita Valley are also conducting coronavirus tests, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

The DPH revealed a total of 17 deaths had taken place in and around the Santa Clarita Valley and surrounding communities. 15 of the deaths were attributed to the City of Santa Clarita, one was attributed to Castaic, and one was attributed to Acton.

An additional death was reported Monday at Henry Mayo but has not been added to the Public Health data.

Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department.

Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which officials say could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.

A Santa Clarita testing center opened on April 8 at the College of the Canyons Valencia campus.

This site is one of several that are up and running around the county, and the first in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Testing is set to run from 7 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m., seven days per week, according to the college.

The Santa Clarita coronavirus testing site is expected to continue at least until June, according to County officials.

Residents are encouraged to stay at home, according to the county public health order.
