2,039 Additional Los Angeles County Coronavirus Cases Confirmed, Backlog In Cases Still Reported

2,038 additional coronavirus cases in Los Angeles County confirmed on Monday, with a backlog in case reporting still occurring in the County, officials said.

The L.A. County total of cumulative coronavirus cases now stands at 176,048 as of Monday, 145 days after the first Health Officer order was put in place, according to Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH).

“Today I’d like to introduce a new set of three C’s that will move with us in the long term recovery that we all want to see happen as soon as possible, these three C’s are compliance, containment and collaboration,” Ferrer said.

There are more than 2,017 people currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 throughout L.A. County, Ferrer said.

29 percent of those currently hospitalized are in the intensive care unit (ICU), according to Ferrer.

Testing results are available for over 1,649,000 individuals as of Monday, with 10 percent of all people testing positive, according to public health officials.

17 additional deaths have been reported Monday, for a total of 4,375 people who have died due to coronavirus in Los Angeles County.

“We know your hearts are broken and we wish you peace and healing. We also offer our sympathies to the families and colleagues of our fallen Public Safety officers from LAPD and L.A. Fire Department,” said Ferrer. “Please know how grateful we are for their service and we’re keeping you in our thoughts and prayers.”

  1. The goal post keeps moving. Today Barbara Ferrer announced a goal of no new cases in a 14 day period. In a County of 13 million, this will simply never happen.

It is time for this City, with amongst the lowest cases among non-prison populous, to show leadership and demand exception handling given that our data meets the criteria for the next phase of opening. I also propose we do so in a way that limits business patrons to SCV residents only for 14-21 days. This will allow for a period of data collection to prove or disprove that this model will work. We also need to consider aligning our City with Ventura County and get out of LA County, as we are more closely aligned with them by almost all measures. We would stand to receive a much larger share of our tax money and attention given our size and influence. We are already partially aligned by CA-25.

One city in this State needs to take a leadership position, based on the data, to oppose the permanent lock-down proposal coming from the State. SCV should be that City.

    • No, we need a lock down because stupid people refuse to wear masks, indulge in the fantasy that life is normal, or believe this virus is nothing serious. No one is proposing a permanent lock down so stop the fear mongering. The longer people refuse to comply with common sense measures, the longer our lives will be turned upside down. Unless you are a medical or scientific expert, your opinions do not really matter. Now listen up, we are NOT EXCEPTIONAL in any way unless you count the ways in which SCV residents continue believe in that oft repeated fallacy. We are NOT special because we live here; this damn virus doesn’t care where you live, what you do for a living or what political party you identify with. If we are to beat back this virus, then yes, ALL of the nation needs to be on the same page, this piecemeal approach of each state calling its own shots is a failure due to no NATIONAL plan or leadership from the White House.

    • Good grief,Safekeeper, how are you going to limit patronage to SCV residents only?
Are you going to check their IDs at the door? Build a wall? How about an imaginary bubble.

Of course the posts keep moving as new information and developments occur. This is an ongoing medical emergency requiring the cooperation of all the special princes and princesses living here; just like the rest of the world. So far that has not happened which is why, as Alice said, we are in this situation.

One other thing- Prisons have become death camps without regard to offenses committed. This is horribly wrong. Where is the plan to protect those in confinement?
