2,593 Additional Coronavirus Cases Confirmed In Los Angeles County

An additional 2,593 coronavirus cases were confirmed in Los Angeles County on Monday, officials said.

The newly-confirmed cases bring the cumulative total number of COVID-19 cases in L.A. County to 136,129, according to Los Angeles County Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer.

“All of our actions and behaviors now help determine what our lives, our communities and our economy will be like in the months ahead,” Ferrer said.

Daily totals for the beginning of the week are lower due to a backlog in testing from over the weekend, according to the public health director.

California Governor Gavin Newsom closed indoor operations in fitness centers, places of worship, offices for non-critical sectors, personal care services, hair salons, barbershops and malls in several counties, including Los Angeles County.

Ferrer also reported that an additional 13 deaths had occurred due to COVID-19, bringing the death toll in the county to 3,822.

Testing results have been made available to more than 1,300,000 individuals as of Monday, with a daily positivity rate of about 9 percent.

The continued growth in cases prompted Governor Gavin Newsom to include Los Angeles County among 30 across the state in which he has ordered the closure of indoor operations across a number of businesses and organizations.

As of Monday, Henry Mayo has conducted 4,316 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 454 have tested positive, and 484 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Moody.

There are 15 patients in the hospital as of Monday, while 137 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to the hospital.

As of Sunday, a total of 3,572 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March.

An update on the Santa Clarita Valley is expected to be released Monday afternoon.

  1. Blah, Blah, Blah. Can we get some real news? This has become so obsessive that it’s ridiculous. We need to protect the vulnerable like any other sickness and live our lives. Move on. This is not The Black Plague. Yes, it is infecting people, but the death rate is going down (that’s science). We should cautiously moving forward, not backwards.
