28 New Coronavirus Cases Confirmed In Santa Clarita

28 additional Santa Clarita Valley coronavirus cases have been reported Saturday as well as 1,236 new cases across Los Angeles County, officials said. 

The total number of cases in the Santa Clarita Valley is now 5,968 with the Los Angeles County total reaching 266,988, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. 

Public health officials are reminding residents to minimize nonessential activities. 

There are currently 715 people hospitalized due to COVID-19, with 29 percent of those patients in the intensive care unit (ICU), according to the department.

Testing results are available for over 2,624,000 individuals as of Saturday, with a positivity rate of 9 percent, according to public health officials.

As of Saturday, Los Angeles County remains in Tier 1 of the state’s coronavirus criteria, the highest, most restrictive category, although lower rates of COVID-19 cases have recently allowed the county to be considered for a lower tier. 

18 additional deaths have been reported within the county Saturday, for a total of 6,504 recorded people who have died due to coronavirus in Los Angeles County since March.

92 percent of those who died due to COVID-19 had an underlying health condition, according to public health officials. 

As of Saturday, a total of 5,968 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. This is an increase of 28 compared to Friday. These include:

  • 3,437 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 134 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 2,059 in Castaic*
  • 27 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 164 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 46 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 76 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • Eight in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • Eight in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
  • Two in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
  • Seven  in unincorporated Sand Canyon

*As of Friday, Sept 25, officials had recorded 1341 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 499 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, 70 cumulative cases have been confirmed in nearby Acton as well as 27 in Agua Dulce.

An analysis of available data indicates that as of Friday, Sept. 25, approximately 31.0 percent of all cumulative cases in and around the Santa Clarita Valley can be attributed to the inmate population at the North County Correctional Facility and the Pitchess Detention Center.

s of Friday, Sept, 25, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 8,149 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 878 have tested positive, and 13 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

There are 12 patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, while 255 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody.

One additional COVID-19 death was confirmed at Henry Mayo Friday, bringing the hospital’s total to 24 and the Santa Clarita Valley’s total to 58, according to health officials.
