35 additional coronavirus cases have been reported in the Santa Clarita Valley, with 2,364 new cases reported across Los Angeles County Tuesday afternoon.
The total number of cases confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley now stands at 2,865 while the L.A. County total of coronavirus cases now stands at 88,262 as of Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH)
Public Health officials noted case numbers are usually higher midweek due to a testing backlog from over the weekend.
As of Tuesday afternoon, a total of 2,865 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:
- 996 in the City of Santa Clarita
- 40 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
- 1,734 in Castaic*
- Five in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
- 50 in Stevenson Ranch
- 12 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
- 24 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
- Three in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
- One in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
*As of Monday, June 22, officials had recorded 1,312 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 486 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.
Additionally, 11 cases have been confirmed in nearby Agua Dulce, as well as 20 in Acton.
The Department of Public Health has redistributed cases among several areas of Santa Clarita on Wednesday, causing a reduction in reported cases in Canyon Country and Stevenson Ranch
As of last Wednesday, Henry Mayo has conducted 2,343 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 249 have tested positive. 77 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to the hospital.
Some patients are tested multiple times, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to hospital officials.
There are seven patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, while 94 patients have been discharged, according to a spokesperson.
While eight patients are currently being treated a total of 84 total patients have recovered and been released since the pandemic began earlier this year.
Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department
Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which officials say could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.
Case numbers are usually higher midweek due to a testing backlog from over the weekend, however, the new case rate may also be slowing due to the closure of testing sites as well as the county-wide curfew due to protests which has limited availability of COVID-19 testing.
34 new deaths were reported Tuesday, bringing the total of COVID-19-related deaths to 3,171 in Los Angeles County, according to public health officials.
A majority of all deaths in the county had underlying health conditions, according to public health, further encouraging those with medical issues to stay home, if possible.
