35 New Santa Clarita Coronavirus Cases Confirmed

As of Saturday, a total of 3,516 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 1,502 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 52 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,811 in Castaic*
  • One in unincorporated Sand Canyon
  • Eight in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 79 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 19 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 34 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • Three in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon

*As of Thursday, July 9, officials had recorded 1,317 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 493 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals. 

Additionally, 34 cases have been confirmed in nearby Acton as well as 15 in Agua Dulce.

An analysis of available data indicates that as of Thursday, July 9, approximately 52.5 percent of all cumulative cases in and around the Santa Clarita Valley can be attributed to the inmate population at the North County Correctional Facility and the Pitchess Detention Center.

Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department.

As of Wednesday, July 8, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 3,936 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 415 have tested positive, and 407 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

Some local patients are tested multiple times, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to hospital officials.

There are 11 patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, while 132 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody.

This is a significant decrease from the 19 patients that were in the hospital last week.

A majority of all deaths in the county had underlying health condition

  1. You can die in a car accident and if you test positive for Covid, it is listed as Covid death. Stop focusing on the number people!!!
