47 Additional Santa Clarita Valley Coronavirus Cases Confirmed, 2,708 New In L.A. County

47 new Santa Clarita coronavirus cases have been confirmed Tuesday, with an additional 2,708 cases being confirmed within Los Angeles County, officials said.

The Santa Clarita Valley total is now 4,172 and the L.A. County total of cumulative coronavirus cases stands at 178,642 as of Tuesday, according to the  L.A. County Department of Public Health (LADPH).

The Department of Public Health anticipates receiving a backlog of cases in the coming days due to previous reporting delays in the State electronic lab system.

A total of 2,051 people are currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 throughout L.A. County, according to the LADPH. 29 percent of those hospitalized are in the intensive care unit (ICU).

Testing results are available for over 1,675,000 individuals as of Tuesday, with a daily positivity rate of 10 percent, according to public health officials.

51 additional deaths have been reported within the County Tuesday, for a total of 4,426 people who have died due to coronavirus in Los Angeles County.

“To the many people across our communities who are mourning a loved one lost to COVID-19, we send you our heartfelt condolences,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of Public Health. “As individuals, and as a community, we must collectively commit to continuously practice the behaviors that slow the spread of COVID-19. Compliance with public health directives, containment of the virus, and collaboration across all sectors are key for us to move into the long-term recovery that we all want to see happen as soon as possible.”

As of Tuesday, a total of 4,171 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. These include:

Additionally, 40 cases have been confirmed in nearby Acton as well as 17 in Agua Dulce.

An analysis of available data indicates that as of Monday, July 27, less than half (approximately 44.0 percent) of all cumulative cases in and around the Santa Clarita Valley can be attributed to the inmate population at the North County Correctional Facility and the Pitchess Detention Center.

Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department.

As of Monday, Henry Mayo has conducted 5,171 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 637 have tested positive, and 225 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

There are 28 patients in the hospital as of Monday, while 171 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody. This is an increase of three hospitalizations since last Wednesday.
