89 New Cases Of COVID-19 Confirmed In Santa Clarita Valley

Officials announced Sunday that 89 new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed within the Santa Clarita Valley.

As of Sunday afternoon, a total of 1,522 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 769 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 39 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 642 in Castaic*
  • Four in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 34 in Stevenson Ranch
  • Nine in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 24 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Newhall

*As of Friday, May 29, this included 429 cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 57 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center.

Additionally, 11 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in nearby Acton as well as nine in Agua Dulce.

Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital officials have administered a total of 1,555 tests as of Wednesday, 208 of which have returned positive, and 1,289 of which have returned negative, with 42 still pending, according to hospital spokesperson Patrick Moody.

Some patients have been tested more than once, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to the spokesperson.

While nine patients are hospitalized due to COVID-19 as of last Wednesday, 77 have recovered and have been discharged, according to Henry Mayo officials.

Officials with Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital reported that two additional COVID-19 deaths have been confirmed at the hospital Wednesday.

Hospital officials could not release any information on the deceased patients due to privacy laws, including things such as age or health history.

The two additional deaths brings the total number of deaths in the Santa Clarita Valley to at least 20, according to officials.

The current patients are being treated on a designated floor of the newly-built patient tower, with each patient receiving the correct level of care without using beds in the Intensive Care Unit, according to the hospital.

Other health centers in the Santa Clarita Valley are also conducting coronavirus tests, according to the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

A total of 54,996 coronavirus cases have been identified across the County as of Sunday, as well as an additional 25 deaths, bringing the Los Angeles County total death count to 2,362.

Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department

Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which officials say could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.

A Santa Clarita testing center opened on April 8 at the College of the Canyons Valencia campus.

This site is one of several that are up and running around the county, and the first in the Santa Clarita Valley.

Testing is set to run from 7 a.m. to approximately 5 p.m., seven days per week, according to the college.

The Santa Clarita coronavirus testing site is expected to continue at least until June, according to County officials.

Residents are encouraged to stay at home, according to the county public health order.

  1. Is anyone reporting about the layoffs of the nursing staff at Henry Mayo Hospital.

  2. The Castaic numbers are not correct. 642-429-57= 156 There are not 156 cases in Castaic. Great reporting…

  3. Someone’s diaper is dirty…again. As the previous poster stated, the Castaic numbers are wrong.

KHTS was separating the Castaic numbers from the prisoners – but now, they are lumped together with the city of Santa Clarita and unincorporated Castaic.

    What happened?

Is it the crack reporting team at KHTS that’s skewing the numbers, or is the health department the blame – or both? The diaper is really dirty today!

How did Castaic’s numbers jump over 100 fold in two days? There go the property values…down…down…down. Poor Castaic.

  4. What happened to the graph? Would like to see a 3 or 7 day average trend line too. How else are we to know the direction it’s moving?
