Additional COVID-19 Death Confirmed At Henry Mayo

An additional COVID-19 death has been confirmed at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Wednesday, marking the 14th such death at the hospital and at least the 32nd for the Santa Clarita Valley.

Wednesday’s confirmed death brings the death total for the Santa Clarita Valley to at least 32, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Due to patient privacy laws, the age and any information regarding underlying health conditions about the patient are unable to be released, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for Henry Mayo.

As of Wednesday, Henry Mayo has conducted 3,273 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 349 have tested positive, and 151 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Moody.

There are 19 patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, while 110 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a total of 3,143 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 1,192 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 46 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,792 in Castaic*
  • Six in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 61 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 13 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 29 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • Three in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon

An update on the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases for both Los Angeles County and Santa Clarita is expected to be released Wednesday afternoon.

As of Tuesday, June 29, officials had recorded 1,314 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 491 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

  1. Feels like we prolonged the inevitable by lockdowns. The minute we go out, masks, Plexiglas, social distancing and all. Thank Obama administration for cooking up the virus in Wuhan that you funded. Will go in history for this mass genocide.
