UPDATE: At Least 42 Santa Clarita Coronavirus Cases Confirmed Sunday

UPDATE: Health officials have confirmed that there are now at least 42 cases of COVID-19 in the Santa Clarita Valley as of Sunday afternoon.

Three of those positive cases have been hospitalized, according to Patrick Moody, spokesman for Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital.

As of Sunday, Henry Mayo has administered a total of 200 tests, with 143 of which have returned results, and 57 are still pending.

County officials released new statistics Sunday afternoon showing the number of cases of COVID-19, otherwise known as coronavirus, throughout the county.

As of Sunday, County statistics show that 38 of the local cases of coronavirus had been confirmed within the City of Santa Clarita, and four cases have been confirmed in the unincorporated areas of Castaic.

Additionally, the numbers for the unincorporated portions of Canyon Country, Valencia, and Stevenson Ranch have been “suppressed,” meaning there are between one and four confirmed cases for each community, according to the Department of Public Health.

This is done to protect patient privacy. Once these locations have five or more confirmed cases, the numbers are expected to be included, according to a public health spokesperson.

The unincorporated areas of Saugus and Newhall reported no cases of COVID-19.

As of Sunday, officials have identified 2,136 cases across all areas of Los Angeles County, including 37 deaths. Approximately 453 positive cases (21 percent of positive cases) have been hospitalized.

  1. Sleepless in Santa Clarita

Thank you hometown station for these reports.

Knowledge is power and our community SHOULD know reported cases. These numbers by no stretch reflect actual cases because of testing criteria and procedures. By calling this “ fake news” in the comment section of previous days is ignorance and lack of compassion for the people with this diagnosis.

WHY would it be necessary to report the identity of these people? Somehow I don’t think that it’s for their personal prayer list.

  2. Please let us know where these confirmed cases have been/general area. Would like to avoid them.

  3. I think that letting us know the exact location of these cases is vital rather than leaving us hanging and guessing which places to avoid. We are supposed to be a community that works together, so act like it and give us the full details if you want to protect the many other lives that could be at risk because you guys are unwilling to find out or even let us know where these cases are located. Thank you.
