Drop In New COVID-19 Cases Monday, Over 2,200 Cumulative Santa Clarita Coronavirus Cases Confirmed

Santa Clarita experienced a drop in the number of new daily cases of COVID-19 Monday, with only 25 new cases within the Santa Clarita Valley, and over 2,200 cumulative cases confirmed.

Health officials noted that there are often lower numbers of new cases identified on Monday, due to a testing backlog from over the weekend.

As of Monday afternoon, a total of 2,201 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 846 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 36 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,239 in Castaic*
  • Four in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 36 in Stevenson Ranch
  • Nine in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 29 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon

*As of Sunday, June 7, officials had recorded 1,305 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 448 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, 10 cases have been confirmed in nearby Agua Dulce, as well as 13 in Acton.

The Department of Public Health redistributed cases among several areas of Santa Clarita on Wednesday, causing a reduction in reported cases in Canyon Country and Stevenson Ranch.

This same practice of redistribution has been applied to cases among inmates at the Picthess Detention Center and the North County Correctional Facility in Castaic. Local residents were outraged when cases were attributed to the small community of Val Verde in April, causing the case rate to spike by the hundreds. Since that time the inmate cases have been split between the Castaic and City of Santa Clarita case counts.

As of Sunday, June 7, the cases among inmates accounted for around 80 percent of all cumulative cases in the area.

As of last Wednesday, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 1,824 COVID-19 tests, with 227 positive, 1,810 negative and 17 pending, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Some patients are tested multiple times, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to hospital officials.

While eight patients are currently being treated a total of 84 total patients have recovered and been released since the pandemic began earlier this year.

Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department.

  1. Well I’m surprised there isn’t more simply due to the “lack of mask wearing “ during the inconvenient protesting that was going on, the duration of protecting and over a period of time. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out our numbers should triple and even higher. Future outlook, hopefully our SCV deaths don’t go up. I’m really concerned about getting the truth. It’ll be interesting over the next month or two.

  2. Ok Karen, we get it, you were inconvenienced. George Floyd was murdered. Hope you feel better though.

    • Career criminal who kicked in the door of a pregnant lady and held a gun to her stomach, while his buddies ransacked the house. Did I mention the countless drug arrests and convictions. What about the white baggie he dropped on the ground as the police were sitting him on the sidewalk? Watch the video, the whole video. When the officer was trying to put him in the back of the car, he threw himself on the ground. He was high on fentanyl and meth, don’t you think that stresses the body enough? But then you resisting arrest causing even more stress to your body?? Put he had no part is death right? Give me a break and watch all of the videos.

Career criminal who put himself in bad situations TIME AFTER TIME again….and sometimes those things catch up with you, plain and simple.

This man was not a hero, he was carrer criminal. How come the news doesn’t talk to the pregnant lady that had a gun put to her stomach by George Floyd?? He was convicted and did 5 years. Educate yourself on who he really was!

  3. No one is calling him a hero. He was murdered by four police officers. FACT
