Family Entertainment Centers In L.A. County To Be Allowed To Re-Open

Family entertainment centers within Los Angeles County are set to be allowed to re-open their outdoor operations, along with updating guidelines for educational cohorts and breweries, officials announced Wednesday.

During the county’s weekly COVID-19 update, Supervisor Kathryn Barger announced that the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health would be updated “later this week” to allow family entertainment centers to re-open outdoor operations.

“I hope this provides much-needed relief and respite for residents who are looking for some activities outside of their homes,” Barger said. “These updates will also bring more employees back to work.”

Businesses that fall under the county’s definition of a “family entertainment center” include bowling alleys, miniature golf, batting cages and arcades.

Additionally, Barger announced that educational cohorts were allowed to bring back up to 25 percent of their “high-need students” for in-person learning, an increase from the previous 10 percent originally allowed by the county.

“Throughout this process, the county monitored schools that re-opened to inform our progress to advance further,” Barger said. “We will now increase to 25 percent capacity for high-need students, so more children and youth can have access to their teachers and the on-site support systems that are so critical for their growth and for their education.”

Barger also announced that wineries within Los Angeles County would no longer need to require customers to order food or reserve a seat ahead of time.

An additional 510 Los Angeles coronavirus cases have been reported Wednesday, bringing the countywide total to 290,486, according to Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

33 additional deaths were reported Wednesday, bringing the cumulative total in L.A. County to 6,944 deaths, according to the department.

The low number of cases reported Wednesday reflects a lag in testing from over the weekend, according to public health officials.

An estimated over 2,800,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted as of Wednesday, with about 9 percent of those tests returning positive.

Although Los Angeles County met the State’s metric thresholds for Tier 2 last month, L.A. County remains in Tier 1 due to the current adjusted daily case rate of 7.6 cases per 100,000 residents.

Per the State guidelines, to move to Tier 2, the County’s case rate needs to be 7 or fewer new cases a day per 100,000 residents for two consecutive weeks. The County’s test positivity rate is 3.4 percent which places the County in Tier 3 for this metric, according to public health.

There are 758 people currently hospitalized with COVID-19 as of Wednesday, 28 percent of which are in the ICU.

As of Wednesday, a total of 6,690 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 3,971 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 163 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 2,153 in Castaic*
  • 28 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 189 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 52 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia

  • 15 in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • 11 in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
  • 10 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
  • Seven in unincorporated Sand Canyon

As of Tuesday, Oct. 20, officials had recorded 1,361 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 513 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are distributed between both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, 77 cumulative cases were confirmed in nearby Acton as well as 30 in Agua Dulce.

An analysis of available data indicates that as of Tuesday, Oct. 20, approximately 28.1 percent of all cumulative cases in and around the Santa Clarita Valley can be attributed to the inmate population at the North County Correctional Facility and the Pitchess Detention Center.

As of Wednesday, Oct. 21, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 9,693 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 997 have tested positive, and 44 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

There are 12 patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, while 290 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody.

One additional death at Henry Mayo was reported Tuesday, with a total of 30 COVID-19 deaths having been reported at Henry Mayo, bringing Santa Clarita Valley’s total to at least 72, according to public health officials.

Family Entertainment Centers In L.A. County To Be Allowed To Re-Open

  1. Real helpful to do this AFTER the business has failed. Good job. I suppose this is a model. Close business based on no scientific data. Let a business sector fail, then declare it can open, and declare your leadership in handling Covid. Seems to be working so far……..

  2. Are we supposed to be thankful that AFTER places have lost their livelihood they reopen them..
WOW way to go NOT!!! Get rid of our Governor and post that news, that is the only story I want to read.

  3. NICE!now maybe you can show us how to put toothpaste back in the tube…..

  4. Guess whose paycheck never got cut during these times.. thats right, the people shutting down everyones jobs and then wanting you to kiss their feet for their “permission” to reopen in our “Free society”.

  5. I’m glad that Master’s University was allowed to open by jumping through all the hurdles, but I feel so bad for these businesses who are not allowed to be open!

  6. So the article said outdoor operations and then in next paragraph said bowling alleys would be allowed to open. How does a bowling alley open if its for outdoor operations?

  7. It seems as though all of the shut down is a test of how much the population will take before there is a rebellion. It looks like the dictators are able to convince enough people that they are doing all of this for your own good as they exercise more and more power. The State of California is taking in less revenue yet I have not heard of any layoffs. They just send the employees (I don’t like calling them workers) home with compensation.

    • If folks do not understand we’re at war, were asleep at the wheel right now, we have been for quite some time.

Not all wars are fought with bullets and tanks… People have ignored information and ideological subversion techniques for far too long.

  8. It is amazing how King Newsom has an approval rating over 60%. He will allow dope shop to stay open, but churches and businesses had to close. I guess he is enjoying his $17k per month salary, and $4 million dollar home that was gifted to him. Soon a total of 28,000 people will lose their job at Disneyland, plus all the local business the resort brings to Anaheim. Of course, Newsom won’t lose a wink of sleep of these people. After he destroyed San Francisco even more when he ran it, his sights are now on the Presidency in 2024. God help us.

  9. We have been blatantly deceived and it is appalling to imagine anyone believes the California Governor has their best interest in mind. Newnothing arbitrarily determined that we must have 7 or fewer new cases of Covid-19 per 100,000 people to move to level 2. Seems like a lofty goal right? Wrong. It is an impossible goal. When people are making appointments to be tested, and showing up, but leaving without a test because they are tired of waiting in line; but later receive notification their test was positive?! Be assured, we will have more than 7 positive cases (for every 100,000 people) for quite some time. Open your eyes people, before it is too late. If not, our children and grandchildren will be the ones who truly suffer. #Trump2020

  10. The whole point here, is it’s the definition of a “day late and a dime short”! ?
