Ferrer Under Scrutiny After Daughter’s CDC Study Influenced Indoor Mask Mandates

Is Los Angeles County Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer’s daughter the one calling the shots for indoor mask mandates in L.A. County?

On Wednesday, RedState.com, reported that Ferrer’s daughter, Kaitlin Barnes, did not disclose conflicts of interest in a study on mask mandates that she co-authored.

Barnes, just like Ferrer, does not have any degrees in the medical field.

The study, published in August 2021, showed that masking and other mitigation efforts in Los Angeles County schools were “highly effective” in slowing the spread of COVID-19 and was written by Barnes and four other authors, but Barnes’ relationship with her mother was never disclosed — even though Ferrer was listed in the acknowledgments section of the study, according to the RedState.com article.

On Thursday, Ferrer denied there were conflicts of interest with the study.

“I am not an author on that study. I had nothing to do with that study. I didn’t review that study. I actually didn’t see that study until recently,” Ferrer said in an interview with FOXLA. “The people who complete conflict of interest forms are the people who worked on the study, who completed those conflict of interest forms.”

Ferrer added that she had “nothing to do with the study.”

“I have no family relatives that work at the Department of Public Health. I don’t supervise any family relatives who do any work that relates to work,” she said. “I have no interest or ability to control any of my family members’ work since they don’t work for me or at this department at all. So there’s no conflict of interest here at all.”

Earlier this month, Ferrer threatened to bring the indoor mask mandate back, including at Santa Clarita schools, beginning on Friday, July 29, which prompted outrage from doctors, school and County leaders.

“Ferrer is not using any science or any facts,” said Joe Messina, a board member for the William S. Hart Union High School District said. “There are now doctors at UCLA and the County saying this is not right.”

Despite the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the County, doctors with LAC+USC Medical Center said that they are not being overwhelmed with the virus.

Last week LAC+USC doctors reported 30 patients had COVID-19 in their hospital, however, only three patients were admitted because of the complications with the virus, and none were in the ICU.

“Our local policies should align with the state’s COVID-19 public health policies,” said County Supervisor Kathryn Barger, who represents the County’s fifth district, which includes Santa Clarita. “I remain opposed to having County-imposed masking mandates in school settings. The County’s masking mandate lacks rigor and enforcement. Requiring our County’s children to wear masks is an unrealistic policy that negatively impacts their healthy social-emotional development and learning. At this point, it does more harm than good.”

Julie Hamill, an attorney representing the Alliance of Los Angeles County Parents, sent a letter to the L.A. County Board of Supervisors warning that if the mask mandate returns for L.A. school children, she plans to file a lawsuit, KTLA reported Thursday.

Hamill is asking the supervisors to step in and take some power away from Ferrer.

“They can put a check on Dr. Ferrer’s power. They are not required to implement whatever policies she recommends,” Hamill told KTLA.

Dr. Birx, the Trump COVID advisor  recently released a book and said that wearing masks is useless and is a way to just control the public.

  1. The thought that Morticia was allowed to spawn is enough for me

  2. Ya, not following the mandate. Have fun with that.

  3. I’m glad to see the media acknowledging that Barbara is NOT a doctor !!

Barbara should be fired & an investigation should be opened I wouldn’t be surprised if there were not palmed greased for her decisions.

  4. Her unkempt, uncombed flaming Liberal grey hair if combed, may have provided more blood flow to her PHD brain—more Liberal control & lock down of the attempted lives & businesses of innocent Americans!! Wake up, not Woke up Sheeple!!

  5. I wish she wore a mask!! Or a paper bag. Or, plastic, drawn tight.

  6. Beverly Hills has just announced they aren’t going to enforcement the mask mandate by the fake doctor skelatore. I hope other cities follow suit.

  7. Just like Biden didn’t know about Hunters dealings with China. Right Barbara.
