Four Do It Yourself Coronavirus Cleaning Projects

Four DiY, Do It Yourself, Coronavirus Cleaning Projects

A large number of Santa Clarita residents are now homebound due to the Safer At Home mandate, with more time on their hands to tackle those spring cleaning to do lists.

Cleaning supplies can still be a little hard to come by in stores, and “do it yourself,” alternatives can end up being more cost effective in the end, so we’ve compiled a list of four ways to clean your home without having to leave.

Do It Yourself Disinfectant Wipes:

According to the CDC, residents can use a homemade diluted bleach solution to make disinfectant wipes powerful enough to kill the coronavirus on surfaces.

First, start by cutting a roll of paper towels in half using a serrated knife.

Mix a solution that is 5 tablespoons (⅓ cup) bleach per gallon of water or 4 teaspoons bleach per each quart of water.

Place the roll into an airtight container, pour the bleach solution onto the roll, and let soak!

Always make sure the surface you are cleaning can have bleach applied to it, that the bleach you are using has not expired, and never mix the bleach solution with any other cleaning solution, especially ammonia.

Do It Yourself Window Cleaner Solution:

Maybe we can’t go outside as often as we would like right now,  but it’s nice to open all of those windows and get some fresh air inside. Want to make your own streak-free window cleaner? All you need is an empty, clean, spray bottle, dish soap, vinegar and rubbing alcohol.

Mix 2 cups of water, 2 tablespoons of rubbing alcohol, 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 3 drops of dish soap into the spray bottle and get to cleaning!

Do It Yourself Toilet Bowl Calcium Deposit Remover:

Are those calcium deposits in the toilet bowl bothering you while you stay at home? Simply pour or spray vinegar into the toilet bowl and let it sit for an hour before scrubbing vigorously. No other cleaning supplies needed!

Do It Yourself Carpet Stain Remover

More time and people at home can mean some new stains on those carpets. To make your own carpet stain remover simply mix 1 tablespoon clear liquid dish soap, 1 tablespoon white vinegar and 2 cups of warm water. Spray it onto the stain, scrub it  with a clean cloth, and dry with a dry, clean towel.

Pro tip: Always test any homemade cleaner on a small area of carpet in an inconspicuous area before tackling large areas.

We hope these quarantine activities and cleaning do-it-yourself tips keep you busy and your home healthy and clean during this time.
