Garcia Sends Letter Requesting CDC Vaccine Guidelines

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, sent a collaborative letter Tuesday to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), calling on officials to issue vaccine distribution guidance to states, including California.

Garcia joined North Carolina Congressman Ted Budd in sending a letter to CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, calling on the CDC to issue guidance to states like California and New York, “where burdensome state and local vaccine regulations are resulting in wasted COVID-19 vaccines.”

“With hundreds of millions of Americans yet to be vaccinated, it’s unthinkable that unused doses are going to waste,” the lawmakers wrote.

The letter is in response to reports nationwide, including from California, that vaccines are being allowed to expire because of unclear state and local rules and regulations, according to officials.

“Reopening America should be the top priority of our government,” the letter reads. “In order to do that, we must encourage state and local officials to cut red tape and ensure that unused vaccine doses are not going to waste. We urge you to do everything in your power to ensure that more Americans are able to be vaccinated as quickly as possible.”

The letter comes as Los Angeles County opens five large scale COVID-19 vaccination centers across the county by public health officials, including one in Santa Clarita Valley at Six Flags Magic Mountain.

Six Flags and the other four sites were chosen by public health officials for their regional accessibility and their ability to handle large capacities of people. The complete list of the sites are:

  • Pomona Fairplex, 1101 W McKinley Ave, Pomona, CA 91768
  • The Forum, 3900 W Manchester Blvd, Inglewood, CA 90305
  • California State University, Northridge, 18111 Nordhoff St, Northridge, CA 91330
  • L.A. County Office of Education, 12830 Columbia Way, Downey, CA 90242
  • Six Flags Magic Mountain, 26101 Magic Mountain Pkwy, Valencia, CA 91355

“In L.A. County, we have to vaccinate 10 million people, twice,” Los Angeles County Supervisor Janice Hahn said in a statement issued last Friday. “These large-scale vaccination sites are going to help us get there by massively increasing our capacity to vaccinate people quickly and efficiently.”

Officials say that L.A. County aims to complete 500,000 free-of-charge vaccinations among healthcare workers by the end of January.

Currently, only prioritized groups such as frontline healthcare workers, residents and staff in nursing facilities, and other long-term care facilities are eligible for vaccination, as identified by the state and the Centers for Disease Control.

  1. Funny you ask now that your buddy got kicked out of the whitehouse.

    • I’m no trump fan, but how does yulost help with the job Rep Garcia has to do. I don’t care who he aligned with. I just want him focused on getting the vaccine out. Plus let’s focus on the healing that Biden has called for. Yulost doesn’t help. Don’t be like those you complained about who always say rude things. As a great band once said, “Let’s come together, right now.”

  2. Why Garcia? Your party of domestic terrorists believed the Corona virus was a hoax, but NOW you want factual data?
You and your spineless, morally bankrupt, ethically corrupt, KKK supported militant party allowed 400,000+ Americans to die over the past year by downplaying the seriousness of this pandemic. Your party not only politicized wearing a mask, but wantonly disregarded public safety even as the body count continued to rise. Here’s my vaccine guideline for you and your fellow fascists: you all go last, dead last.
