Highest Number Of COVID-19 Hospitalizations Reported In L.A. County For Second Day

The highest number of COIVD-19 hospitalizations since March has been reported with 3,160 additional coronavirus cases in Los Angeles County on Monday, officials said.

The L.A. County total of cumulative coronavirus cases now stands at 159,045 as of Monday,  according to Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH).

Ferrer noted numbers during the beginning of the week are usually lower due to a backlog in cases from over the weekend.

Recent increases are due to, in part, celebrations during the Fourth of July, where infections take up to two weeks to present symptoms, according to Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

The supervisor also encouraged residents to express their first amendment rights safely by practicing social distancing and wearing masks.

Barger further noted one in five Los Angeles County residents are currently food insecure amid the COVID-19 pandemic, urging those in need to seek a local food bank.

There are more than 2,362 people currently hospitalized due to COVID-19 throughout L.A. County, Ferrer said, the highest number since the pandemic started.

26 percent of those currently hospitalized are in the intensive care unit (ICU), according to Ferrer.

Testing results are available for over 1,500,000 individuals as of Monday, with 10 percent of all people testing positive, according to public health officials.

Nine additional deaths have been reported Monday, for a total of 4,104 people who have died due to coronavirus in Los Angeles County.

As of Sunday, a total of 3,862 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 1,788 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 63 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,835 in Castaic*
  • 11 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 91 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 29 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 37 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • Four in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
  • Two in unincorporated Sand Canyon

*As of Sunday, July 19, officials had recorded 1,318 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 493 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

As of Wednesday, July 15, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 4,482 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 496 have tested positive, and 458 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson.

There are 23 patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, while 140 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to the hospital.

A majority of all deaths in the county had underlying health conditions, according to public health, further encouraging those with medical issues to stay home, if possible.

  1. SCV has the same amount as Friday. Interesting.

  2. Recent increases are due to, in part, celebrations during the Fourth of July, where infections take up to two weeks to present symptoms, according to Supervisor Kathryn Barger.
    Yah, that’s what caused it,

  3. Look we are sick of the lies and can see through these faked numbers. When Front Line Medical Staff are coming forward and saying they are being forced to lie about the numbers or get fired that’s a problem.
We’re over this Fake Chinese Flu Media Hype, nobody cares anymore.

  4. Type in any 3 numbers then new cases in Google. You will then see a fake news article with that amount of cases. Example 477newcases
Then ask yourself am I really getting the truth?

  5. People do care about this.
Do you actually know a person in hospital work who was forced to lie ?
Have you not yet been directly affected by the virus?
Are you actually saying that this isn’t really happening?

  6. 2 weeks ago, there was a group of 10 people at my work that were scheduled to take the test, 4 of the 10 needed to reschedule for various reasons and only 6 went for the testing. All 10 received notice of their test results, all 10 came back positive when only 6 actually took the test.
    How does this happen?
Since then, another person commented that hospital staff are taking new swabs and sending them for testing without ever making any contact with the swab and these results are coming back positive as well.
This is why the numbers are shooting up. We are being played folks.

    • I’m hearing this from our neighbors too!!! Horrible what is happening. We stayed indoors for months and didn’t leave the house. Finding out the lies and false positives makes me furious I was diligently complying to everything. I can’t take this level of corruption. No more democrats cone ejection time. Done!!!!

  7. Let’s hope that was a fluke. We still know that people are getting sick and some are dying and we don’t have a cure or immunization yet. I’d still be careful.

  8. Watch out for urban legends. Neighbor gossip isn’t reliable enough to dictate your behavior. Peoples’ conjecture usually comes from their own limited experience.
Forget specific numbers for now because there have been problems with accurate reporting. Let that go for now and remember: There have been many deaths from this virus and no cure. You can catch it from others. Don’t become complacent just because you’ve been lucky so far. Maybe your diligence is paying off!!

Forget specific numbers for now because there have been problems with accurate reporting and much confusion.Let that go for now and remember: There have been many deaths from this virus and no cure. You can catch it from others. Don’t become complacent just because you’ve been lucky so far. Maybe your diligence is paying off!
