Indoor Malls Open For Curbside Service In L.A. County Before Memorial Day Weekend

Indoor malls have been allowed to open for curbside pick-up Friday in Los Angeles County before the Memorial Day weekend, when many retailers have sales.

In addition to the new retail openings, the County has also reopened bike paths near beaches, according to Supervisor Kathryn Barger.

“Retailers within malls can take orders and deliver goods to the public outside of the mall at marked locations. Residents will still need to wear masks while at the beach or curbside shopping, and as always maintain physical distance,” Barger said.

Recreational activities now available at the beach include swimming, surfing, running, walking skating, and biking, according to Barger.

An additional 1,072 COVID-19 cases were reported Friday. The County total of coronavirus cases now stands at 42,052, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer.

Over 412,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted across Los Angeles County, with about 9 percent testing positive for the virus, according to Ferrer.

6,093 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness, accounting for roughly 14 percent of all positive cases within Los Angeles County.

Of those, 1,506 are currently hospitalized, according to public health officials.

35 new deaths were reported Friday, bringing the total of COVID-19-related deaths to 2,049 in Los Angeles County, according to Ferrer.

A majority of all deaths in the county had underlying health conditions, according to Ferrer, further encouraging those with medical issues, a staggering one out of three county residents,  to stay home, if possible.
