Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LAPDH) officials announced Tuesday that the daily COVID-19 case rate in the county had dropped to within a percent value of the next threshold to enter the yellow tier of re-opening.
LADPH officials announced Tuesday that according to state metrics, L.A. County’s adjusted daily case rate had dropped from 3.2 new cases per 100,000 people to 2.7 new cases per 100,000, a promising sign of progress in re-opening.
“The numbers released today provide evidence that we are on the right course and if we experience additional declines in the case rate, COVID-19 transmission will be considered minimal in L.A. County and we will be able to move to the least restrictive yellow tier,” said Ferrer. “In order for continued decline in transmission of COVID-19, we will need to remain vigilant and continue to take precautions in the weeks ahead allowing us time to vaccinate more people.”
Los Angeles County remains in the orange tier in the State’s Blueprint for a Safer Economy framework. In order to move to the least restrictive yellow tier, the County’s case rate must be less than 2 new cases per 100,000 people and test positivity must be less than 2%.
The test positivity rate also dropped from 1.5% to 1.2%, and in areas with the fewest health affirming resources, L.A. County’s test positivity rate dropped from 1.9% to 1.4%.
An additional 360 new COVID-19 cases and 33 deaths were reported by the LADPH across L.A. County on Tuesday.
This brings the county’s cumulative total to 1,229,641 positive cases of COVID-19 and 23,668 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, according to the LADPH officials.
Testing results are available for over 6,346,000 people, with a cumulative 18% of people testing positive, according to officials.
As of Tuesday, there were 470 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in L.A. County, 21% of which are in the Intensive Care Unit.
The Southern California Region has 35.5% staffed adult ICU capacity remaining as of the state’s last update on Tuesday, April 20, according to state health officials.
Residents are encouraged to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19, to not gather in crowds, stay home when sick, wear a face covering and maintain physical distance from others when outside of the home.

On Tuesday, April 20, 2021, seven new COVID-19 cases were reported in the Santa Clarita Valley, with 26,723 cumulative cases having been reported in the valley over the past year, according to the LADPH. These cases include:
- 20,208 in the City of Santa Clarita* (+8)
- 47 in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
- 836 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
- 3,711 in Castaic*
- 68 in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
- 1 in Placerita Canyon
- 15 in San Francisquito/Bouquet Canyon
- 17 in unincorporated Sand Canyon
- 128 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
- 39 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
- 1,133 in Stevenson Ranch (-1)
- 336 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
- 190 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
*As of Sunday, April 18, public health officials have recorded 1,986 cumulative cases have been reported at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center, including 1,447 at the North County Correctional Facility. Those cases are distributed between both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals. In nearby Acton, there have been 469 cumulative cases, as well as 278 cases in Agua Dulce.
A total of 145 coronavirus deaths have been reported at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital, with at least 285 COVID-19 deaths reported across the Santa Clarita Valley since March 2020.

Dr Ferrer suggest ‘we’ need to remain vigilant and continue to take precautions in the ‘weeks’ ahead as she continues to put American citizens on these ridiculous restrictions while those who enter our country illegally with the covid are permitted to flow into American towns and cities without any such restrictions, which is clearly jeopardizing the health of Americans, all the while threatening these prolong COVID-19 ‘restrictions’ if ‘we’ don’t remain vigilant
The current administration is exempting illegals from the very rules that we American citizens are forced to follow.
Fauci was recently asked by congress if he would find it concerning if a restaurant was at 250% capacity, like some of the current illegal migrant camps/pods?
“It would be a major concern, yes,” Fauci replied.
Talk about a new level of hypocrisy from the current administration as well as our very own Governor, elected officials and administrators.
