The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) reported nearly 550 new coronavirus cases and 10 deaths across the county Sunday. 

An additional 546 COVID-19 cases and 10 deaths were reported across L.A. County Sunday, according to officials.

This brings the county’s cumulative total to 1,225,802 positive cases of COVID-19 and 23,477 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, according to the LADPH officials.

LADPH officials announced Saturday that this week marks L.A. County’s lowest test positivity rate since the start of the pandemic.

The test positivity rate is the percent of all COVID-19 tests performed that come back positive, and today’s rate is just 1.1% in L.A. County.  The test positivity rate peaked on December 30, during the height of the surge, at 20.9%, and has dropped 45 percent in the last month, officials said.

“April is a critical month in our COVID-19 recovery journey. Over the last few weeks, businesses and public spaces have reopened, and many more people have been out and around others,” said Barbara Ferrer, L.A. County Director of Public Health. “With increased contact among non-household members, there are many more opportunities for transmission of COVID-19, particularly if public health directives are not followed.”

For community members that do not have a primary care provider, L.A. County is set to help those in need of a provider by dialing 2-1-1 on your cellular device. 

More than 4,715,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered to people across Los Angeles County. Of those vaccinated, 1,652,149 people received second doses and 136,232 people received the single dose Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Testing results are available for over 6,192,000 people, with a cumulative 18 percent of people testing positive, according to officials.

As of Sunday, there were 492 people hospitalized with COVID-19 in L.A. County. 

The Southern California Region has 32.1 percent staffed adult ICU capacity remaining as of the state’s last update on Tuesday, April 6, according to state health officials.

Residents are encouraged to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19, to not gather in crowds, stay home when sick, wear a face covering and maintain physical distance from others when outside of the home.

On Sunday, April 11, 2021, 20 new COVID-19 cases were reported in the Santa Clarita Valley, with 26,618 cumulative cases having been reported in the valley over the past year, according to the LADPH. These cases include:

• 20,117 in the City of Santa Clarita* (+19)
• 47 in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
• 831 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
• 3,704 in Castaic* (+1)
• 68 in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
• 1 in Placerita Canyon
• 15 in San Francisquito/Bouquet Canyon
• 17 in unincorporated Sand Canyon
• 128 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
• 39 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
• 1,126 in Stevenson Ranch (+1)
• 335 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
• 190 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia

*As of Saturday, April 10, public health officials have recorded 1,986 cumulative cases have been reported at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center, including 1,447 at the North County Correctional Facility. Those cases are distributed between both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals. In nearby Acton, there have been 465 (+1) cumulative cases, as well as 275 (+1)  cases in Agua Dulce.

There were six COVID-19 patients in Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital as of Wednesday, March 10, while 1,171 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March 2020, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

One additional death was reported at Henry Mayo on Monday, March 8, with a total of 145 coronavirus deaths at the hospital, with at least 264 COVID-19 deaths reported across the Santa Clarita Valley since March 2020.
