Officials with Los Angeles County announced Wednesday that they have launched the Critical Delivery Service (CDS), a free delivery program for older adults and individuals with disabilities, that is set to deliver groceries, household items and other vital necessities to those who can’t leave home due to COVID-19.

The program was announced in a statement posted on the Los Angeles County Department of Workforce Development, Aging and Community Services (WDACS) Twitter page Wednesday.
“As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the California Safer at Home Initiative, our aging population has an increased need for timely delivery services,” the statement read.
In order to qualify for the free delivery service, a resident must be either 60 years in age or older, have a permanent or temporary disability, or a dependent adult between the ages of 18 and 59, according to officials.
Additionally, an individual can receive up to either four deliveries or 40 miles-worth of deliveries each month.
While deliveries are set to be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week, there is a more limited window during the week to schedule a delivery. Residents can call 888-863-7411 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to request a delivery.
Once a delivery is scheduled, residents then must order their items either over the phone or online with the store selling them, and provide payment for the items.
From there, a CDS coordinator will schedule a driver to deliver the items, then call the resident back in order to confirm the delivery details.
The CDS was launched Wednesday after officials announced that a total of 7,530 cases of COVID-19 had been confirmed within Los Angeles County.
