During a press conference Thursday, officials with the Los Angeles County issued an order for the over 10 million residents of the county to stay at home effective midnight Thursday, March 19.

We’re asking people to refrain from gathering within an enclosed space in groups of more than 10,” said Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger. “We know that this will have an impact on the social fabrics of our community.”

According to Los Angeles County officials, businesses that do not provide “essential” services are required to send their employees home. Those essential services include grocery stores, pharmacies, restaurants (for delivery only) and hardware stores.

Additionally, health care workers, emergency responders, and utility providers are also exempt from the mandate, according to officials.

Residents will still be able to leave their homes in order to get essentials such as food and water, seek medical care, and exercise in a limited capacity, according to officials.

“We can’t tell you exactly how long these orders will be in place, but we can tell you that they will be temporary,”  Barger said. “Being safer at home does not mean being alone.”

Across Los Angeles County, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases has risen to 230 as of Thursday afternoon, with four coming from within the Santa Clarita Valley. Two people in Los Angeles County have died as a result of COVID-19.

  1. Safer at Home Order in place until April 19, 2020 according to LA County Board of Supervisors, Mayors of Los Angeles, Long Beach, Pasadena, etal., Obviously will be re-addressed as necessary.

  2. What if you sold your house and have to be out of the house in the next week or two? You have to move, once escrow closes it is no longer your home. There are reasons you can not possibly stay home all the time.

    • Hi Debi, moving services are on the list of services considered to be essential. It is on page 4 of the County Public Health Order, page 4, paragraph h. (The order is a bit tricky to read. It is 6 pages long and each page is numbered 1 of 6.)

  3. YOU STILL HAVE TO PAY CALIFORNIA AND RISK YOUR LIFE!

You still have to go out and pay the state and county, even if you are vulnerable or over 65 years old.
You have to get your car smog certificate.
You have to pay your car registration, even if you are vulnerable or over 65 years old.
You still have to go to the banks and post office to mail your LA County property tax payment

TRUMP has delayed federal income tax payments from the April 15 date.
NEWSOME has not delayed California income tax payments from the April 15 due date.

LA County has forced utility companies to delay bill payments and eliminate late penalties for gas, electricity and water bills.
LA County has not done anything about property taxes.
California has not done anything about car registration payments or smog tests.

STAY AT HOME ORDER IS A JOKE.

  4. Will Auto Malls employees need to stay home also?

  5. I’m homeless with my service dog. Under the Whites Canyon Road at the bike path. So am going to get ticketed or arrested?

  6. Banking industry is also exempt. I was ordered to keep working.

  7. What is considered essential healthcare? I know hospitals, ER, and doctors office, but what about behind the scene healthcare (eg. insurance companies, Physical therapy admin, etc).

    • Yeah I was wondering that too…I work in aba field and it’s considered a medical necessity to provide services to families if they still want them…doing telehealth supervision for some…but it’s like…uh I don’t think aba companies can just shut down…

  8. Hi I live with my family and my cousin but he keeps going out.Im afraid that will be affected with corona virus and he doesn’t listen that he should stay home.please help me I don’t want to stay in this house.

    • We have an adult daughter (who lives with us) that is doing the same as your cousin. She just blows the whole thing off. I too am concerned that she will bring something home–both her dad and I are in the high risk range. She brought home two friends over the last couple of days. We said “New edict: NO ONE OVER!” We told her that its a high probability that she’ll bring the virus home with her and then what? We also threatened that we may find it necessary to lock her out of the house if she can not comply with local lock- downs b/c it threatens our safety as a family. This is a horrible situation to be in with one’s own ‘child’.

      • Same here. I have a twenty-something daughter who also blows it all off! She works as a checker at a local market, won’t stay away from her boyfriend who lives in Glendale, and is in denial that this is a serious thing! I’ll tell ya, if she had to go aWEEK without going out, she’d be nuts! She can’t handle being still for more than 10 minutes! She would be so bitchy and hard to live with you wouldn’t believe it! My husband is a senior, and has that immune system thing, and so I had to make her stay at a friend’s house til this blows over. In the meantime, we’re hunkering down and staying home, not going out for any reason. Stocked up on necessities and ready to deal with this for the long haul if necessary! I don’t wanna die and I certainly don’t want my hubby to die either! Gotta do what you gots to do!

  9. are faith based organizations exempt?

  10. Does this include animal shelters or animal rescue centers?

  11. Just stay home dammit! Stop trying to find ways to spread it more!!! u can have it or anyone can have it! It’s a lot more dangerous and contagious then their telling us! Just like how there is more cases out here in scv that they aren’t telling us which is facts since I have my sources! They need to shut down all America or it will keep spreading! Stay home lock your doors! We got a long road ahead of us !

  12. The order is a joke, and those responsible for it and those praising it are idiots. The list of exceptions is vast. It won’t do a thing to halt the spread of this illness, but it will do is push hard working individuals and families whose work is deemed “non-essential” closer to economic ruin and public dependence. We can comply fully with this order, and never improve our chances. It’s unethical to force financial ruin on some because others among us can’t manage their fear.

  13. 60 million Americans were infected with the Swine flu in 2009, 60 million!!!! 13,000 American deaths and did we shut the whole country down! People are gonna lose their homes, small businesses and everything they got.

Respond back to me when we hit 60 million infected and 13,000 dead…..if we even do!!

Not even 13,000 dead WORLDWIDE YET!

    • Italy has a higher death toll than China now, i believe it’s over 50 deaths per day

    • Wth? What is your number? 20000? 30000?

    • Oliver, please. We are just 3 months into the new year and this virus has a very high transmission rate. 9,000 cases to date but these are only CONFIRMED cases. We are not doing draconian testing yet here in the U.S. (everyone should be tested like So, Korea is doing). If you don’t test, you don’t know, do you? Some people spread the virus without becoming ill or long before they become ill. This virus stays aerosolized for HOURS. There has to be thousands of thousands of cases out there that no one knows about yet. And we are just 3 months into the new year here…

    • I doubt this applies to the homeless. Ticketed? Don’t pay it. What are they going to do? Put them in jail with food and shelter?

    • China has lied and is lying about its numbers on a huge scale add 4 or 5 zeros to their numbers. Other countries are lying as well. They’re covering it up to ensure a global spread. Governments always lie. Watch peak prosperity youtube channel from when he first started covering this thing up to present. Well sourced. This is also a distraction from the deployment of 5g

      • 5G is a real problem and the areas highly affected in Italy already have 5G. Lots of conspiracy theories about this, im sure we will all be surprised in the end. Look at all the pedophile arrests not on msm. Good luck

  14. Some of us seniors started our self-quarantine or stay safe at home on Fri., the 13th. Now, we are ordered to stay at home now for 15 days! That puts us at 22 days! How much is too much?
