UPDATE: Over 70 Percent Of All Santa Clarita Coronavirus Cases At Pitchess Detention Center

Over 1,450 coronavirus cases have been identified among inmates at the Pitchess Detention Center in Castaic, over 70 percent of all coronavirus cases in the Santa Clarita Valley, officials said.

The cases among inmates have risen to just over 73 percent of all cases in the Santa Clarita Valley, with 1,453 cases within the Pitchess Detention Center and North County Correctional Facility in Castaic as of Friday.

On Monday, this number stood at just over 60 percent of all coronavirus cases in the Santa Clarita Valley.

130 additional coronavirus cases have been reported in the Santa Clarita Valley, with 1,445 new cases reported across Los Angeles County Friday afternoon.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Santa Clarita Valley now stands at 1,979 while the L.A. County total of coronavirus cases now stands at 61,045 as of Friday, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH)

As of Friday afternoon, a total of 1,979 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 822 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 36 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,045 in Castaic*
  • Four in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 35 in Stevenson Ranch
  • Nine in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 27 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Newhall

*As of Friday, June 5, officials had recorded 1,299 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 154 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, 10 cases have been confirmed in nearby Agua Dulce, as well as 11 in Action.

The Department of Public Health redistributed cases among several areas of Santa Clarita on Wednesday, causing a reduction in reported cases in Canyon Country and Stevenson Ranch

As of Wednesday, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 1,824 COVID-19 tests, with 227 positive, 1,810 negative and 17 pending, according to a hospital spokesperson.

Some patients are tested multiple times, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to hospital officials.

While eight patients are currently being treated a total of 84 total patients have recovered and been released since the pandemic began earlier this year.

Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department.

Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which officials say could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.

  1. So, only 526 confirmed cases really in the community. Can we go back to work and school like normal now?

  2. Not to be rude, it’s just that this really isn’t the greatest writing job you guys did. Not the greatest writing at all.

According to county of los angeles public health
They actually separate Castaic(Pitchess Detention Center)
Over 1,000 cases in Castaic with 1 death in Castaic
Now, for Santa Clarita community cases ….
Over 800 cases in the community(neighbors)
    18 deaths in community
So basically Castaic isn’t even considered Santa Clarita according to the charts. Just to correct your title post.

  3. Just wondering if there is a way to clarify how many actual cases there are in Santa Clarita and in Castaic that aren’t from the jail. It used to be just in Val Verde, then they were moved to Castaic which was fine because you clarified how many were in the jail so you could figure out how many were also in castaic but now that some are in Castaic and some are in Santa Clarita, those of us that live in either of those have no idea how many actual cases are in our city because we don’t know if 50 of those are from pitches or 800? If you could clarify that, or if we could even make themselves have their own section.. (Unicorpirated SCV or unicorporated castaic or something ).. Just a suggestion 🙂

  4. Pitchess and Castaic are not apart of the Santa Clarita valley, so why are those numbers included with Santa Clarita??
