Over 3,000 Cumulative Coronavirus Cases Reported In Santa Clarita

41 additional cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed within the Santa Clarita Valley as of Sunday afternoon, for a total of over 3,000 cumulative COVID-19 cases.

As of Sunday afternoon, a total of 3,043 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 1,111 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 43 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,781 in Castaic*
  • Five in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 57 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 13 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 29 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • Three in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • One  in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon

*As of Saturday, June 27, officials had recorded 1,313 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 488 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are distributed in both the Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, 13 cases have been confirmed in nearby Agua Dulce, as well as 21 in Acton.

Sunday’s case numbers were updated after Governor Gavin Newsom announced that Los Angeles County, among others, would have their bars and nightclubs close once again.

Public health officials are not releasing recovery numbers by city, according to the department.

Due to testing shortages, these numbers are only the confirmed cases, which officials say could be much lower than the actual number of coronavirus cases in Santa Clarita.

As of Wednesday, Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital has conducted 2,725 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 282 have tested positive, and 50 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to the hospital.

Some patients are tested multiple times, creating a discrepancy in the numbers, according to hospital officials.

There are 13 patients in the hospital as of Wednesday, while 99 patients have been discharged, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for the hospital.

Over 3,000 Cumulative Coronavirus Cases Reported In Santa Clarita

  1. We’ve flattened the curve. It’s still going to run it’s course. The virus is not eradicated because we were in lockdown. It was to prevent hospitals from being overwhelmed. It looks like the masks and plexiglass and 6ft apart are not as affective as we had projected. Another projection that is wrong.

    • The rise of confirmed Corona virus cases and hospitalizations in CA has been traced back to Memorial weekend, just as CA reopened. Nationwide, foolish, uninformed, bored/angry mobs demanded businesses re-open too early; stopped wearing masks, flocked to beaches, hiking trails, ignored social distancing, attended graduation parties, bars, restaurants, etc., In other words, they acted as if the virus was over and selfishly put themselves and those they came in contact with at risk.

Furthermore, your own assertion doesn’t hold water; the fact that the curve flattened is PROOF that the stay-at-home, wear masks and practice social distancing order DID work to flatten the curve. Look no further than NYC, once the epicenter of the virus in the US. Their death rates, hospitalizations and new cases are now under control because these same measures were strictly enforced longer than any other state. By the way, NO ONE ever said these measures were designed to eradicate the virus; only an effective and safety tested vaccine may do that (even then there is no guarantee.) The projections were not wrong, what failed was our commitment to take this virus seriously and to honor the front line workers laying their lives on the line for us daily.

And please don’t even try to blame the protests for the spread. Covid-19 has NOT surged in big cities where protests took place, but it has in states that re-opened too early. This has been cited and documented in all major cities, the World Health Organization, the CDC, and reliable/reputable newspapers/news sources nationwide. CA re-opened too early, too many people got complacent and we thought the worse was over. Simply put, this virus controls us and continues to do so.

      • Oh I’m sure it’s based on science, not on politics, going back to work, going to bars or just existing, bad, spreads the virus, for shame.
Mass protesting, rioting or occupying neighborhoods, is a magical wall of protection against the virus.
PROOF that the stay-at-home works, there is no proof,

So NYC death rates, hospitalizations and new cases are now under control because these same measures were strictly enforced,
Cuomo refuses to be held accountable for the thousands and thousands of seniors who lost their lives because of his failed and fatal nursing home policies. He waited too long and his actions clearly contributed to NYC becoming the epicenter of the virus in the US, basically he already thinned the herd.

Additionally, Cuomo told CNBC and the MIAMI Herald reporter that,
“The reality is that New Yorkers, along with the rest of the country, aren’t truly staying inside all day, safe from exposure to COVID-19, the disease the coronavirus causes”.
This has been cited and documented in all reliable/reputable Liberal newspapers/news sources nationwide. I guess you missed that, all facts matter.

    • Your ideas are welcome here. Please share.

  2. Why isn’t it clear where the cases from the prisons are counted. Is 100% of North Country Correctional Facility included in Castaic and Pitchless is part of Santa Clartia or is there a percentage of each counted towards each city? Someone must know since they are reporting the numbers.

*As of Saturday, June 27, officials had recorded 1,313 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 488 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are distributed in both the Santa Clarita and Castaic totals. How many belong to each.

  3. Testing sites closing and reopening to create a “surge”. I’m a nurse. People need to wake up. This is a strategic game. Manufactured surge and manufactured decline in numbers. Kick backs and bonuses for each corona test done. Now there is incentives!! This is a terrible game being played!!!

    • Testing sites closing and reopening do not create a surge; people’s stupid behavior does. The surge is no more manufactured than is this virus; COVID-19 is real. Spreading misinformation like your attempt here is dangerous, stop spreading fake news and start wearing a mask. If you are a nurse, you should know better, do better, be better.

    • You’re a nurse? Shame on you. Nurses have died nationwide.

  4. Funny how the media covid scare completely stopped while the protests and riots were urged and not opposed, and now, as soon as the protests are dying down we are right back to the covid scare.

    • The murder of an unarmed Black man by four armed police officers deserved all the national coverage it garnered and continues to do so. Racial unrest, racism, white privilege, police brutality and abuse of power are not news for people of color; it’s an everyday occurrence for many of us. This moment in history is a wake up call for a lot of white people and this pandemic is a wake up call for EVERYBODY. Although you tried, do not confuse the two; racism and Covid -19 are both diseases, virulent in nature, sickening to observe/experience and deadly to many. Funny how you conveniently failed to mention the president and his administration and their failure to truthfully address either issue tearing apart this country. Perhaps leading by example is too much to ask from you and them. SHAMEFUL

      • Off topic,
I thought we were commenting on the increase in COVID-19 by ALL the people is the point, protesting has an continues to be overlooked as a contributing factor by the media. All FACTS should MATTER.

        • Unmasked “all-American, don’t take away my freedom to do whatever I want”protestors pose a greater threat than masked BLM demonstrators,
But enough of the pointing fingers! Let’s just get it out there with this question:
Who should be our next president and why? Explain your answer in under 50 words.

      • Lol good one my poor brainwashed white girl used by the left as a pawn in this game of politics. Not all of us are buying the fake racism you people are spreading, no one cares what color you are anymore we are all equal here and all have had equal opportunities for decades. So stop spreading your lies and hate , America has never been so divided until this blm hate group came out. https://youtu.be/Z572XopBVFc

    • News coverage has always been like that. Nothing new or suspicious about it.

    • That is how the news has always been. Nothing to be suspicious of. The latest gets covered and the other stories get updated. So the Trump/Putin/Afghanistan connection is being widely covered today along with the COVID-19 updates.

  5. Covid-19 does not spread outdoors at the rate it does in enclosed spaces. I’ve marched with Black Lives Matter and then quarantined just in case.

Go ahead and have your July 4th parties and hang out in your bars. I’ve lost three friends to Covid-19. They died alone in hospital on ventilators. I hope you are spared that agony and grief.

    • The virus is so smart it knows when the riots are over, it’s time to come out again. ? it was on hiatus during riots and protest marches.

      • This virus never faded just ignorant people like you continue to dismiss it. Answer me this, why does Faux News fail to consistently to cover it? Pretending this virus is gone, fading, or just like the flu is criminal and fools like you who repeat those lies are beyond reckless. Stop the lies and distortions, pull your head out of you a** and wear a mask.

  6. America has been divided by our president. Be mad at him. He has a megaphone much louder then any of us and instead of unifying, he says horrible things. I have to think there are some contributors on this post that would never have written such put-downs prior to 2016.
