Over 64,600 Cumulative Coronavirus Cases In Los Angeles County, 10 Additional Deaths.

An additional 823 cases of coronavirus have been identified in Los Angeles County along with 10 additional deaths, as protests continue across Southern California.

Since L.A. County began relaxing the “Safer at Home” order, there has been a marked increase in the economic health of the county, according to Los Angeles County Supervisor, Kathryn Barger.

“Last week we saw 17.8 percent decrease in unemployment claims from the previous week,  this shows steady improvement to support workers across the county,” Barger said.

Barger also acknowledged the ongoing protests happening throughout L.A. County and across the nation.

“Thank you to all those who continue to come together peacefully, in the spirit of unity and collaboration to find solutions,” said Barger. “I also want to thank those on the line, our first responders, for helping us keep peace on the street. We appreciate you each and every day and we know you are working hard under very difficult circumstances.”

An additional 823 COVID-19 cases were reported Monday throughout Los Angeles County. The County total of coronavirus cases now stands at 64,644 according to Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of the L.A. County Department of Public Health.

Ferrer noted that due to testing backlogs from over the weekend, the number of new cases reported in usually lower on Mondays

Over 708,000 coronavirus tests have been conducted across Los Angeles County, with about eight percent testing positive for the virus, according to Ferrer. However, she noted last week that 86 percent of people who tested positive were asymptomatic, underlining the need for social distancing and other measures in order to prevent spread to others.

6,923 people who tested positive for COVID-19 have been hospitalized at some point during their illness, accounting for roughly 11 percent of all positive cases within Los Angeles County.

Of those, 1,399 are currently hospitalized, according to public health officials.

10 new deaths were reported Monday, bringing the total of COVID-19-related deaths to 2,655 in Los Angeles County, according to Ferrer.

About 93 percent of all deaths in the county had underlying health conditions, according to Ferrer, further encouraging those with medical issues to stay home, if possible.

As of Sunday afternoon, a total of 2,176 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March. These include:

  • 835 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 36 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,226 in Castaic*
  • Four in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 36 in Stevenson Ranch
  • Nine in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 28 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Newhall

*As of Sunday, June 7, officials had recorded 1,305 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 448 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.

Additionally, 10 cases have been confirmed in nearby Agua Dulce, as well as 13 in Action.

  1. The numbers are so misleading. How can the correction numbers be included in Castaic and
Santa Clarita, but yet the number is more?
