Regal Cinemas Set July 10 Movie Theater Reopening

Regal Cinemas has set a July 10 date for movie theater reopening with new safety standards, officials said.

Reopening plans include a wide range of new health and safety measures based on guidelines provided by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and other public health organizations, according to Regal.

“We are thrilled to be back and encouraged by recent surveys that show that many people have missed going to the movie theatre,” said Mooky Greidinger, CEO of Regal’s parent company, Cineworld.

Movies slated to be released in the coming weeks include Tenet, Mulan, A Quiet Place Part II, Wonder Women 1984, Black Widow, Bond, Soul, Top Gun Maverick, among others, according to Greidinger.

The plan also includes safety measures based on feedback received from employees and moviegoers they have deemed most important for their return, the company said.

To start, Regal has implemented contactless payment options and “innovative” sanitizing methods, the latter using ULV Foggers.

“Employees will sanitize every auditorium and seat after each movie using new electrostatic ‘fogger’ equipment,” reads a statement from Regal. “This form of deep sanitization is highly effective in disinfecting all materials with a non-toxic formula that is fast drying.”

Where required by local governance, all employees and guests are to wear masks. Regal employees will undergo daily health screenings, including temperature checks where mandated, according to officials.

At the concession stands, every other register will be closed to maintain social distancing, self-service condiment stands are to be closed and refills on large drinks and popcorn are set to be suspended.

“Where required by state or county mandate, auditorium capacities will be reduced to 50 percent,” reads the statement. “Our reservation system will maintain two empty seats between groups to maintain proper social distancing throughout the movie.”

A spokesperson for Regal was not available for comment after multiple attempts regarding the reopening of the two Santa Clarita locations.

  1. This is a bit concerning, or perhaps we need more detail – “two empty seats between groups.” If someone is directly behind me, that’s a lot less than 6 feet. Plus, they’re above me so I’d be breathing what they’re exhaling. This would not be safe for covid. I hope they’re planning to keep seats scattered between rows too, but I didn’t see anything about that in this article. Otherwise, there’s no point.

  2. Tell you what, this is one thing I don’t need anymore and have no interest in. As far as I’m concerned, they can close these theaters down permanently! IMO, their time is past now. Personally, why would I want to go there anymore? First off, you know the price is gonna go up. Figure $20 a pop, at least! Sit in a dirty room with greasy floors and sticky seats, (yeah, yeah, they’re gonna keep ‘em clean now) have to deal with a-holes on their phones, babies crying, unnecessary chatter, some drunk idiot throwing popcorn in your direction, and that’s just a few of the things to deal with not even talking about this virus thing yet! The food and drinks are WAY too expensive, and now they want you to pre-purchase food before going in—-see how that’s gonna pan out. LOL! All your life you walk in and sit where you like. You have a yen for the back row or maybe the front? Not anymore! Now you have assigned seating (never thought I’d live to see this!) with seats apart, but what’s that going to do when you still have folks breathing on you from behind?? What’s the point anymore. I bought a 65”smart tv with a good sound system, so I turn the lights off, and I’m in the theater without all the stuff you want to avoid! If I want to get a snack or go to the bathroom, I put it on pause and miss nothing! Why would anyone want to be in a theater now? I say, tear em down and put up a drive-in there! As a kid, that’s all we did! You played frisbee in the front or used the swings and jungle-gyms and played in the sand before the movie! Oh did I forget there was always a cartoon at the beginning, and also, remember these were DOUBLE-FEATURES! 2 movies with an intermission, for those too young to remember. Ironic how drive-ins suddenly seem attractive after years of none being around anymore! Most kids haven’t ever been to one! This virus has inadvertently brought them back! So cool! I dig that aspect! When I first moved here 20 years ago, a friend and myself wanted to put our houses up and open a drive in here, but the aNewhall Land and the other powers that be didn’t want to let it happen. I went to the Saugus Speedway and proposed using the bowl on the inside to have weekly movies there drive-in style, with me renting one of those big inflatable screens to show the movies on, but they told me where to go! Not interested. Maybe now is the time to do this here! This is something I can get into, what with the weather being sunny almost year-round here! SCV should be drive-in city!
