Santa Clarita Among Cities In U.S. With Fewest Benefiting From Coronavirus Stimulus

Santa Clarita has been ranked among cities in the United States where the fewest are to benefit from the coronavirus stimulus, officials said.

In a report released Wednesday, SmartAsset listed Santa Clarita as the 23rd city where the fewest people would benefit from the COVID-19 stimulus.

“The historic COVID-19 stimulus package sets aside $250 billion for direct payments to individuals and families to help them deal with the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic,” reads the report. “Based on income limits for those direct payments, people in some parts of the country will benefit more from this portion of the stimulus bill than others.”

Santa Clarita, listed at 23, has an estimated 65.9 percent of households that would receive the full benefit. An estimated 79.7 percent of Santa Clarita households are set to receive a check of any size, according to the SmartAsset report.

Nearly 90 percent of Americans would receive a check from the stimulus, even if reduced, while 80 percent would receive the full benefit amount.

“Of the top 10 cities where the highest percentage of households will receive a COVID-19 stimulus benefit, five are in the Midwest,” reads the report. “Of the bottom 10 cities in our study, nine are on the coasts. Four of these cities are in California’s Bay Area.”

Other Southern California cities have made the list, with Irvine at No. 14, Huntington Beach at 15, Pasadena at 19 and Torrance right after Santa Clarita at 24, according to the report.

This study is based on the largest 200 United States cities and household incomes reported in the 2018 Census.
