Although the mandatory “Safer at Home” order might have separated the residents of the Santa Clarita Valley, social media, such as the “Santa Clarita Coronavirus Updates” Facebook page, has helped keep them united and informed during the shutdown.
Growing by over 300 members a day since its inception, totaling over 2,400 members, Santa Clarita Coronavirus Updates was started in an effort to keep the community informed, according to group organizers.
Although there is plenty of information being spread around the internet these days, what sets Santa Clarita Coronavirus Updates apart is the fact that local officials are actually involved in the leadership of the group.
Public information officers from the City of Santa Clarita, William S. Hart Union High School District and other local organizations have the ability to share information directly to the group, helping ensure that the coronavirus updates shared there are accurate and timely.
The group is meant to inform the community about coronavirus news, health updates, grocery store item availability updates, fitness ideas, restaurants that offer delivery and takeout options, local event cancellations and more.
“Let us take this time to help one another as we adhere to the ‘Safer at Home’ order and maintain social distancing,” reads the group description. “During this unprecedented time, we want to help each other in times of need to overcome this together.”
