Second COVID-19 Death Within One Week Confirmed At Henry Mayo

An additional COVID-19 death has been confirmed at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Monday, marking the second such death at the hospital within the past week, and at least the 43rd for the Santa Clarita Valley.

Monday’s confirmed death brings the death total for the Santa Clarita Valley to at least 43, according to officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

Due to patient privacy laws, the age and any information regarding underlying health conditions about the patient are unable to be released, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for Henry Mayo.

As of Monday, Henry Mayo has conducted 5,171 COVID-19 tests. Of those, 637 have tested positive, and 225 tests are still pending with Henry Mayo, according to Moody.

There are 28 patients in the hospital as of Monday, while 171 patients have been discharged since the hospital’s first case was reported in March, according to Moody.

A total of 17 people have died within Henry Mayo due to COVID-19, while a total of at least 43 deaths have been reported throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.

As of Monday, a total of 4,125 cumulative cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed in the Santa Clarita Valley since testing began in March, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health. These include:

  • 2,001 in the City of Santa Clarita*
  • 75 in the unincorporated areas of Canyon Country
  • 1,851 in Castaic*
  • 12 in the unincorporated areas of Saugus
  • 104 in Stevenson Ranch
  • 32 in the unincorporated areas of Valencia
  • 41 in the unincorporated areas of Val Verde
  • Four in the unincorporated areas of Newhall
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Bouquet Canyon
  • One in the unincorporated areas of Saugus/Canyon Country
  • Three in unincorporated Sand Canyon

*As of Sunday, July 26, officials had recorded 1,321 cumulative cases among prisoners at the North County Correctional Facility, and 495 at the Peter J. Pitchess Detention Center. Those cases are counted in both the City of Santa Clarita and Castaic totals.
