Six Flags Magic Mountain To Reopen With Temperature Checks, Reservations

Six Flags Magic Mountain is set to reopen with temperature checks and reservations, limiting the park capacity to ensure social distancing.

Magic Mountain, and all other Six Flags parks across the country, have been closed due to the COVID-19 outbreak, but the “Thrill Capital of the World” is preparing to welcome guests once again.

“At Six Flags, your safety is always our No. 1 priority, and we have developed a comprehensive plan to keep our guests and team members safer,” said Sharon Parker, communications director.

No date has been set for the reopening of Magic Mountain as of Tuesday, but Six Flags announced a park in Oklahoma, Frontier City, on June 5.

“Frontier City, like all Six Flags parks, is an outdoor attraction that poses a significantly lower risk of exposure than indoor venues. Our guests are not confined to one space for lengthy periods,” said Six Flags President and CEO Mike Spanos. “We have developed a comprehensive reopening safety plan that includes best practices from theme park and waterpark industry experts, along with top destination parks from around the world, which will allow guests to experience our parks in the safest possible way. This ’new normal’ will be very different, but we believe these additional measures are appropriate in the current environment.”

Guests are going to be required to make a reservation before entering the park to prevent overcrowding and ensure at least a six-foot distance from other thrill-seekers.

A “cutting-edge” thermal imaging system is set to be in place to read all guest’s and team member’s temperatures as they enter the park, according to Parker.

Masks are also required for everyone on park property, including guests and team members. Exceptions are expected to be in place for children under the age of two and those with breathing issues.

New security systems are set to be in place upon reopening, so Magic Mountain guests are able to undergo “touchless” bag screenings, according to Parker.

Following guidance from public health officials and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Social distancing at Six Flags is going to be in place.

“Social distancing is going to be strictly enforced, with clear markers showing where to stand in queue lines for park entry, restrooms, dining and also where to sit on rides and attractions,” Parker said.

Six Flags is expected to launch a virtual queue system for ride lines, which would still allow park-goers to stay with their small groups.

Mobile food ordering has also been expanded, further allowing a “contactless” experience at Magic Mountain.

“Our team members will be sanitizing superheroes,” Parker said. “We will increase cleaning and disinfection in high traffic zones, and including restrooms, dining areas, rides seats and restraints and line railings.”

Hand sanitizing stations are expected to be in place throughout Magic Mountian, including the exits of rides to curb the spread of COVID-19.

“The return of fun is something every member of the Six Flags team takes seriously and we are working hard to keep you, and your family safe,” Parker said. “We look forward to welcoming you back to Six Flags.”

As of Tuesday, a reopening date has not been set for Six Flags Magic Mountian.

  1. I’d really would love to go and enjoy family time at Six flags Magic Mountain, Santa Clarita, Ca… I, as well my family believe that since we are getting charged monthly for our seasonal passes, we, along with every other member should have the right to be on a reservation list, or a weekend that allows us to spend a day on the attractions, since we’re a Platinum member joined since 3 yrs. It would be very appreciated to have fun during these days isolated at home from this epidemic COVID-19. THANK YOU…

    • I agree. I’ve been a member for years. We are counting down until we are able to go. I hope as members we get priority. I pay full price every year and I don’t get on the rides except the merry go round. I take the kids. Even on school days when it’s open.

  2. How about just refunding my money??

  3. I’m paying upwards of $200 a month for membership for my family…this new norm sounds very pain in the assi-sh…ill hope for the best…but expect a shit show

  4. I would like a refund

  5. I wonder how many people will end up hospitalized due to heat stroke and other pulmonary issues after wearing a mask for hours in high temperatures in line in the sun because of your forced mask policy? I wear one everyday at work and now have lung and breathing issues because of it. I will cancel my memberships and not spend a cent at your amusement parks until this mask wearing bullsh*t is done. You are causing people more harm than you are protecting anyone with the masks!

  6. Does anyone have any info on how to apply to the class action lawsuit against Magic Mountain for paying for passes while they are closed? They called me and said that I need to pay for when they were closed due to the pandemic in order to cancel my membership.
