14 Freeway Pursuit Through Santa Clarita Reaches 120 MPH

A 14 Freeway pursuit came to an end in the San Fernando Valley early Thursday morning after reaching speeds of 120 mph, officials said.

On Wednesday around 11:30 p.m., Palmdale Sheriff’s Station deputies initiated a pursuit of a blue Suzuki sedan after it failed to yield, according to officials.

Once the pursuit entered the 14 Freeway, officers from the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office took over the pursuit.

“We took over the pursuit at the southbound SR-14 at Ward Road,” said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the office.

As officers pursued the vehicle through the Santa Clarita Valley on the 14 Freeway, speeds range from 85 to 120 miles per hour, according to Greengard.

“One of our officers successfully deployed a spike strip and the vehicle hit it at Soledad Canyon,” Greengard said.

The vehicle continued south on the 14 and transitioned to the 5 Freeway on two flat tires, Greengard said.

The pursuit terminated in the San Fernando Valley without incident, according to Greengard.

Erick Madrid, 39, from Palmdale, was arrested and charged with evading a peace officer, a felony, according to officials.

Madrid was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $75,000, according to arrest records.

  1. And to think all it would take to eliminate all this crap is come up with a small handheld device that, when aimed at a certain vehicle, or license plate number or VIN # entered, it would effectively shut down that vehicle! WHY is this SO hard to make?

    • Remote kill switches have been contemplated since the 1980’s, and always rejected by the public. I certainly would not want to give Gavin Newsom the power to suddenly disable all cars in California. Criminals would just disable it on their vehicles and then hack the system to shut down cars in remote areas so they can rob, rape, and murder passing drivers.

  2. MADRID from Palmdale could have killed someone or many!

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
