15-Year-Old Arrested After Bringing Gun To Antelope Valley High School Campus ‘For Protection’

A 15-year-old was arrested Friday after bringing a gun to Antelope Valley High School in Lancaster “for protection” one day after the Saugus High shooting, officials said.

On Friday, a community member alerted Antelope Valley High School campus security that a student was possibly in possession of a weapon on school grounds, according to Ali Villalobos, spokesperson for the Lancaster Sheriff’s Station.

School security immediately notified the school resource deputy assigned to Antelope Valley High School, and after conducting an investigation, the deputy found a 15-year-old male student in possession of a handgun, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“The student stated he had brought the gun to school for protection,” Villalobos said.

As of Friday, there is no indication the student had any plans to harm himself or any other student, according to Villalobos.

This incident comes one day after the Saugus High shooting, where two students died.

Students are reminded that bringing any weapon onto a school campus is not only a violation of school policy, but also against the law, Sheriff’s officials said.

“Parents, please talk to your students about the dangers of possessing weapons,” Villalobos said. “Should your child feel unsafe or have any issues that are causing them to feel the need to protect themselves, school counselors, administrators and school resource deputies are all available to help resolve those issues.”

The student was arrested for being in possession of a firearm on school grounds and was transported to Eastlake Juvenile Hall with no bail, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“We thank the community member that came forward this morning. It is through vital partnerships such as this that allow us to keep our communities and schools safe,” Villalobos said. “As always, Lancaster Sheriff’s Station continues to work hand in hand with parents, students and faculty to ensure our schools are a safe place for all of our students to learn. Don’t assume someone else will do something about it.”

  1. There should be no slap on the wrist . You Liberal Democrat’s pass all these gun laws yet when one of your laws is broken you do not convict . You make excuses for that person . It is illegal for a minor to have gun . If he took it from his parents and it was not locked up per Ca law then the registered parent should face charges of negligents . The reason this continues to happen is you never attack the problem head on you only scream for more useless gun control and make excuses for the law breaker . It’s time to take guns away from law breakers and leave us law abiding citizens alone .

  2. SHS99: So accurately spoken! The Liberals that created & foolishly voted for Prop. 47 & 57 and AB 109 are some to blame! The poor frightened youth fears for self protection in the AV—can one imagine what it’s like for the frightened youth & adults in the valley & LA !!??! Freedom gone BERSERK!!
