25-Year-Old North Carolina Murder Suspect Arrested In Santa Clarita

A Charlotte, North Carolina murder suspect, Mark Ellis, was arrested in Santa Clarita on Thursday for murder, officials said.

Due to an extensive investigation, Ellis was charged with the murder of 31-year-old Catrell Holloway through a collaborative effort between Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s (CMPD) Violent Criminal Apprehension Team (VCAT), the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Fugitive Task Force, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday.

Ellis is expected to be extradited to North Carolina at a later time to be charged with murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Around 10:40 a.m. on Jan. 31, detectives with the CMPD Homicide Unit were advised to conduct a homicide investigation on the 5700 block of Windy Valley Drive in the Freedom Division.

Shortly before the unit was notified, a community member flagged down deputies to alert them of a body found in the woods on Windy Valley Drive in Charlotte, North Carolina.

When officers arrived on scene, they identified an adult male with a gunshot wound and the man was classified as dead on arrival.

Homicide Unit detectives, as well as the Crime Scene Search, responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and examine any potential evidence found in the nearby woods, according to CMPD officials.

Through continued investigation into the case, detectives identified Ellis as a potential suspect in Holloway’s murder and warrants were issued for his arrest.

Any potential relation between Ellis and Holloway remain unknown to the public as of Friday, CMPD officials said.

The investigation into this case remains active and ongoing.
