Active Parole Suspect Arrested After ‘Fictitious’ Currency, Drugs Located During Search

A Newhall man on active parole was arrested Thursday on a slew of charges after deputies noticed his registration was expired, officials said.

On Thursday, deputies conducted a patrol check of a gas station on the 23000 block of Newhall Avenue and observed a vehicle with expired registration, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Deputies contacted the owner of the vehicle, male adult 30 years old, and learned he was on active parole,” Arriaga said.

While deputies searched the male, deputies recovered a stun gun from his pocket, which is a violation of his parole, according to Arriaga.

“Deputies arrested the male and conducted a parole compliance check at the residence where he resides,” Arriaga said.

During the search, deputies recovered narcotics, drug paraphernalia and fictitious currency, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Jaime Barcena, 30, from Newhall, was charged with possession of a fictitious currency, violation of parole, convicted felon in possession of a stun gun, all felonies, Arriaga said.

Barcena was also charged on multiple misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to officials.

Barcena was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $20,000, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
